Is it a 1.4 by any chance?

If so then the trivia is, originally this engine has a higher power output, hence higher emissions.

This is the very reason Ford 'de-tuned' it.

That's the 'Endura-E', same engine as the Ka basically, (An old engine from the 70's essentially) therefore you should find Ka owners are in the same position.

Yes and no, you would obviously have to declare the change and the car and most likely get it type approved for it to qualify.

It's simply not worth the hassle tbh.

No, ANY modifications need to be declared to your insurer!

It's in 'Band G' because of the emissions, so they are fairly high (The bands go from A to M, so it's about in the middle.

No. Not a thing. It's based on what the car is registered as, so it would make no difference.

Yes it will affect the insurance, and you could find yourself in bother if you;re in an incident. Whenever you do something declare it to your insurance company. Many won't charge if it's just cosmetics – you still need to tell them.

Engine size tells you nothing, thats a schoolboy error In the same way that people think that a bigger engine automatically has more power and is therefore faster An excellent example is the 1L 'Ecoboost' Focus, it's free tax for the first year (Assuming new) and just Ł20 thereafter, yet it generates as near as makes no difference the same amount of power (125 HP) as a 2L Zetec engine, it was the Cosworth that was the first production car to produce more than 100 HP per litre, now we can get this from a shopping cart! By your theory alot of people would be paying more tax with bigger engines, which are more efficient than yours!

Gas guzzlers do get penalised, for a modern 4x4, performance car etc, VED is Ł400 a year.

Was going to say a Focus which has the same engine is cheaper, bearing in mind it's heavier as well, so a phase two should be in that same tax band.

On that basis I imagine the very early Focus's are in the higher tax band as well.
