Times are there as a guide line not a minimum time I beleive.
I do think if your doing short mots it will be looked into. Our mots last around the 35/40 minute mark for a new ish car. Has been over an hour plenty of times though

too many people think there is a minimum time, but then there is realism and being realistic, the older the car the more potential issues.

I was MOT testing in dealerships and was the site manager/AE/QC for near 20 years and never had an issue with log on times (since mot computerisation inception)

have you checked online to make sure it is registered on the vosa site? my brother had an mot done and 6 months later when he came to tax it they said he had no mot since it was last due, called the garage and they tried to claim they had never seen the car!!

After some words they garage claimed it was an error and they did something and it then showed mot??

Guy who does mine hardly know the guy but every car i take there passes.

First time I took a old 1999 ibiza in, two tyres on the wear bars, wishbones dead, balljoints dead, exhaust blowing. he drove it in, let it run for a bit, put the washers on checked the lights went underneath it for about 30 seconds then passed it, didnt check brakes emissions or sod all lol

VW he passed next took even less time, i know its dodgy but i 90% of the time know what a car needs doing so i fix it anyway but if it was some dipshit woman or a old granny it would be a different kettle of fish.. :/

Sounds reasonable - I recently put my banger mondeo through an MOT, I knew the handbrake wasn't working and a couple of other bits and pieces, but if it came out with a failure list as long as your arm then there would have been no point in doing the repairs first as it would be straight off to the scrapper.

This is why your MOTs should be done like ours in a designated MOT centre, not a garage.

My point exactly. No point spending £150 on the bits you know are faulty on a 15 yr old car for it to only fail on another £150 of bits come the MOT when the car is only worth 400 - 500.

That can't be right, When I have been to my mates MOT place,
If he finishes to quickly we have to wait for it to time down or something so thats impossible.

As I posted before, you'd be doing well to log the car on the system and log straight off again in 3 mins the VTS machine is on a dial up connection ,not broadband and isn't the fastest of systems, obviously no emission test was done either. (as well as the rest of test)

Gives the 'trade' a bad name.

Exactly!

(For non-testers) the tester has to enter the 4 service brake and 2 park brake test figures and any imbalance readings into the VTS machine and it works out if pass/fail on the brake test as it knows the weight of the vehicle.

Probably just made them up

If say a Fiesta/Focus, if you add for arguments sake 300kg on each front wheel, 150kg on each rear service brake and another 150kg on each park brake you could probably get a pass.
