170 220 engine swap
How easy is it to swap these engines? I have a mk2 st24 170 and want to drop the mk3 st220 engine in, I know in a preveus fast ford mag it sez they bolt straight in but will my 5 speed gear box fit or am going to have to change the selector ect?? And how easy is the ecu and loom to rewire???
Earlier versions of the ST220 had a 5-speed mtx75 'box if you get one of these it should be easier to fit, - you will need the ST220 loom, ECU, and locks, keys etc - if not there may be problems with the immobilisor - the AC and heating etc may be a problem
It would be a fair bit of work
It would be worth doing as the mk2 is lighter than the mk3 - otherwise you may as well just buy an ST220 - less hassle

to correct Black_jack: this is an easy swap, that can be done even with nonFord 3l block, no matter the transmission, you even have multiple routes.. you can fit the old heads and intakes onto the 3l block (so-called hybrid), or go the full 3l swap route.. there are also other combinations, like 3l block and heads with ST200 UIM etc...
basically you just swap the timing cover to keep the aux stuff there, keep the loom, ECU, do only minor mods to the new block and voila, there you go a 3l up and running
