2007 Mondeo TDCI heavy smoke
hi all
my car is smoking heavily the smoke is pure black when setting off and only last between 1500rpm to 2500 rpm then gets a bit better also when iam going uphill will smoke so much that i cant see behind when i put foot on gas sometimes needs a bit of power just to move the car from standstill i have searched the forum and no one has the same problem
checked all pipes and they are perfect no rips build up good pressure they have been taken off the car one by one
also have changed the intercooler just in case that was the problem but still the same
car has been decated just to see if it makes a differnce but nothing still the same
changed the electric acutator for the turbo aswell just incase it sticks open
turbo spools over no play on the shaft
egr and inlet been cleaned out plus egr has been blanked off using a blank with a hole in it for the euro 4 model
i have noticed a noise from the air box kind of rumble that gets louder i ve checked all hoses from here and have had it of the car to check for splits but nothing
car has recently had new injectors fitted and new clutch flywheel
car is a taxi and has done 160k
any advice would be much appreciated cant drive the car as its to smokey and dangerous for ppl behind me

Did you get the electronic box for the vnt blades coded back into your car? As far as I know they are not interchangeable. Also does the arm for the vnt blades on the turbo move freely? Are you sure that the egr valve is not sticking open? As even with a small hole in the plate it will still draw dirty air through the egr feed pipe into the intake manifold. Where the injectors new and coded into the ecu? Had any problems with the timing chain tensioner causing the valves to hit the pistons and cause the cam deck to split away from the valves?

The electronic box was moving on the car and coded the injectors where from Merlin diesels in Preston recognised Delphi injector specialist and coded using formidable and the checked on my snap on solus going to get the timing checked to make sure it hasn't slipped and damaged a valve or two car drives perfectly jus smokes like hell

To the OP - I'm suspecting turbo and not fuelling. You need to see what boost you're producing - Rig up a boost gauge and you want to see it peak at 30PSI (overboost) and tail off to around 20. Any less and you've either got a dodgy turbo, or a leak somewhere.
No whooshing sound at all just a rumble from the air box that doesn't seem right if I take the air box and pipe of the car will jus throw out white smoke as the turbo is not gettin clean air but as soon as it goes box goes on the car will start to produce the black smoke it's only at low revs and clears up once you get above 2500 rpm guess that's when turbo actually kicks in

Now they all state something to do with the EGR I ve had it off cleaned it blanked it and still no difference
I ve cleared the codes and they haven't come back so I don't really know if the egr is working or not so might jus cough up and get a new one to see if that sorts it

As yours is a Euro4, blanking off the EGR will always bring on the fault codes (blanking it off with a hole is pretty much pointless. Replacing it does seem like a sensible option unfortunately.

quick update
car had a bent con rod that was causing the black smoke so new engine fitted
now it wont start have checked the timing today and that was fine
all parts from my engine were transfered on to the new engine prior to fitting
so i know my parts were good and that my engine still ran
error codes on my fordmidable comes up with P2288
injector control pressure too high
so now lost as to what it can be FRP starts at 8 and will rise to anything above 500+ and back down on cranking
i am going to try the imv and see if that makes a difference
is there anything else i can try stumped with this car
