Default GGR S2 RST nut & bolt restoration after 14 years in storage

Hi all.
The time has finally come to pull my S2 RST out of storage where it has been in its carcoon with filtered air for last 14 years. The plan is to liturally strip it to a bare shell and give her a full nut and bolt restoration.

Cars got a hell of alot of history, big spec engine with 733 miles to its name and concours trophies from nearly 16 years ago. I'm sure ill be on here for years with this thread.

May need lots of help, advice and beer along the way so do keep following.

Cars now been collected a month ago by restorers who have started the pain stated job of stripping what I've left ready for complete strip of shell.

do you have any pictures before the strip of it and after 14 yrs inside the carcoon I bet it was in good condition, any downsides to using one of them?

Will sort more pictures later. Came out of carcoon in immaculate condition. I stripped the floor to bare metal 14 years ago as this was original reason I took it off the road. Got a bit carried away back then and then along came mortgages n kids putting it on hold. Even after 14 years with floor in bare metal the carcoon did its job. Not even a bleb of rust. Best buy ever.
Alittle thin material and I had to tape up the odd rip where I had brushed past it with jeans on and the press studs sliced it but would recommend them to all. I had mine suspended from garage roof so when deflated for me to work on the car it just hung above the roof.

This one is the day it arrived at body shop.

Not got pictures on this phone yet. I phones weren't invented back then but will get them ASAP.

Reg is E186 UUA. Was in Performance Ford back in 1990 by first owner where Collins Motorsport had 220bhp by time she was 2 years old.

Well watch this space, but may take some time.

Took me 7 months on waiting list to get it into this body shop and they've quoted around 12 months for the shell refurb. When I say these guys are the dogs nuts I mean it. E type n Ferrari experts and been around for nearly 40 years. Anything that comes off is goong to be new or refurbed, every nut and bolt is being replaced with another good contact in stainless steel and already on first names terms are powder coat / sand blasters.

Just one ask from all. Don't tell the Mrs how much things cost.

Well today I started the pain staking job of polishing the exhaust. Got a cheap bundle of felt mops, sponge pads and the paiste to help me on my way. Trouble is the power the angle grinder has with felt pads in you need a third hand to hold the funny shaped sections still. Not a bench job really, more a wrestle on the floor. Managed one section so plenty of hours left yet.

Excellent news. Would love to catch up with you and to find out more about the car. Be rest assured you'll eat your dinner off it when it's finished.
Did you have it sprayed at all. Desperately trying to find out which grey it is. It's got a blue tint to it so thought at some stage it's had a change?

Well what a great find.
Cellerdweller actually turns out to be the guy I bought the car off 17 years ago this Friday. Seems I broke his heart and he may have pictures of the car going back as far as when the car was 3 years old and covering the 5 years he owned it. Great bit of history with lots of tales and story's to follow over a pint I think.
Putting this one down to such a great website. Thanks PassionFord
