Default Lack of low down power.

First off I'm new to fords so please bare with me.

I brought a 2000 mk1 focus 1.8 zetec a few months ago as a family run a round. I'm used to higher powered cars so I took the sluggish of the focus to be normal for a car with 115bhp??

Over the last few days however things have been getting worse. The engine will idle and rev up fine but just has no pull and makes an odd (turbo like) sound below 4000rpm.

I have changed the plugs, leads, coil pack and both air/fuel filters but these have had little effect. I also done a compression test and 1,2 and 3 were 160psi and number 4 was 150. Which I think is ok?

The engine management has never came on and when scanned there was no codes.

Anyone have any thoughts on what I should try next??

Thanks
Phil
