Default (another) new car required

Right chaps at the moment iv got a 2.0ltr diesel turbo astra as im doin nearly 40miles a day (round trip) to work and back but just landed myself a new job and its only 4.5miles from mine so im thinking the diesel will have to go and time to get a petrol as itl be cheaper to run will it not?
Will have around £2000 might be able to squeeze a little bit more together.any suggestions welcome
Thanks chaps

If its something slightly less sensible, you'll get a fiesta RS turbo or an escort RS turbo for that kinda money.

The cheapest thing to do is keep the car you've got, and spend the money on fuel instead.

Ive just bought an impreza uk300 lol
Puma i px'd done around 30mpg, the tank of fuel in scoob lasted me 275 miles, about 23.7 mpg LOL

But its a very nice car to drive so fuck the mpg, i do about 6000 miles a year, 10 miles each way so a tank of fuel will last me about 2 weeks...

I could have got something sensible on fuel, but im only 32 and wanted a bit of excitement lol. Its 240bhp but i wouldnt say its fast...

As for the octavias, if they float yur boat then fine, they are a cracking car, just not for me.
I was considering matts one, but showed the mimssus the pics and she doesnt like them either lol

I have only had the scoob since the 11th buts it ticking the boxes so far

Cheers mag i do like them but unfortinatly the missus doesnt an she will be driving whatever i get to so she does get to have a little input

Shame that mate, as they are a nice car & its basically a VW Golf/Audi A3 of similar vintage in a sharper suit

A Mk1 (facelift) focus should be within range, get a limited edition one for that money, such as a 1.6 Focus 'Black' or 'Silver' special edition, or a 1.8 Focus Ghia

Not taken any of my own pics yet, i have washed it once already but its dirty again lol.
I bought it off phil lol so you may have seen the pics from his thread.

To answer your question, £75 to fill up - that was for 52 litres and its a 60 litre tank, and the 275 miles was from full to fuel light on, but as said 52 litres used. But i did put it on the rollers last week for piece of mind, so that would have used a bit of fuel. So long as your reasonably, sensible it should see 25mpg i reckon. Oh it made 251 bhp, 227lbft so not too shabby

I didnt buy it or the mpg tho, i needed a 4 door car with a decent boot... That wasnt a boring mondeo

Lol that's the problem mate as soon as it becomes remotely high performance or fun it's hard to get anything above 30mpg.

That's why I suggested the fabia, chipped there 180 ish bhp and still good mpg. But I agree there not the prettiest car on the road and there is still the skoda stigma.

A civic type r always seems to be a car that the missis favours and when driven normally is quite sensible, but can be a good laugh when you push it on a bit. That said still not great mpg.

you dont often get performance and economy in the same brakcet tho lol.

ive always fancied one, so thought sod it. if it does get too expensive then ill shift it on, no major dramas and should hold its value well as its a limited edition so i shouldnt really loose out.

as said tho, i only 20 miles a day so should be able to live with it lol.

iv always liked imprezas a friend has offer me his type ra for next to nothing had a full engine rebuilt around 2 and a half years ago got mapped then has been pretty much sat on his drive.will require new discs n pads and a very good clean but thats about it.like i said i could afford to run one but trying to save money but like you said fudgey can always get rid if it gets to expensive.

A motorbike would be ideal really mate but unfortinatly the other half wouldnt be able to drive it

Just looked at st170's and civic type r's cant belive how cheap they are now.
What are type r engines like? As the ones you can get cheap have got way over 100k on the clock are they reliable if looked after even at that milage?

Wouldn't put 2k into an st 170,their becoming £1000 cars now do you'll only lose on it,plus their crap on fuel and not really that fast.
Do handle well and drive nice but nothing special.
Can't really go wrong with the scoob, skoda doesnt really do it for me,sadly I'm from the air cooled skoda generation age so they've always been a pisstake car to me (even though I accept their vw now!!!).

And to just 4.5 miles, i coldnt be arsed to put all the kit on.
I used a bike a few years back for a 70 mile round trip commute for 6 months... Till i got wiped out

Was fucking shit in the rain i tell thee!!!

i'd stick to the diesel, as long as you actually drive somewhere once in a while it'll be fine.
i travel 2.2 miles to work and my 330 petrol drinks for fun (sub 20mpg, but i do abuse it), the bora on the other hand with a remap does 34mpg, so all round i save money on the diesel and i don't go easy on that too much either.

my mate had a megane was abolute sh@t, never by with spending money on it and did sensors in for fun!

Type r's are generally very reliable, they do however use oil and need to be kept topped up, if this hasnt been done then im sure you're aware if the issues, i hated mine for the fact if road had so much as morning dew on it it lit up the inside wheel just trying to go to work! Missis liked it tho, my JDM dc5 integra tho was a really good carry on but they are still good money.

What about a dc2 integra type r?

When i mentioned the st170 it was partly because there are a few advertised near me for 1200 ono which realistically is a good value for money car.

Seen a few fiesta st's at just a smidgen over 2k?

Leon cupra r's are also about at similar money?

I have had a load of subarus and can't complain about any of them, just the older ones below a grand are becoming the corsa of today!!

mk4 astra gsi, not my cuppa tea but seem cheap enough

on the older front, e36 m3? evo 2-3-4?

similar to civic type r but bit different toyota corolla tsport

and the one everyone is scared from, mazda rx8, i had one new in 2005 and was really good fun but piss poor on fuel. They are buttons now tho but obviously some have obviour reliabilty issues!

Why has my thread been moved into this room? I was asking for what car i should be looking at buying not wanting to buy a car on here.

Xr2wishy-my only concern is not traveling the distance that a diesel needs so will carbon up the egr and inlet manifold ect.i mean its not a problem but taking them off and cleaning them out every now and again can be a ballache findin the spare time might be difficult.but perhaps putting up with this will save me money in the long run?

Kevin-cheers for reply mate iv not even considered a teg tbh might be worth a look to unless enough people think a diesel should be better.

At the end of the day the only thing that matters is what you think!

Go have a look, a try and a general poke about, see what suits you!

If you decide diesel At end up no harm done!!
