Escort TD intercooled - advanced timing?
I've put a pair of belts on my Escort TCI today. I know I can adjust the pump timing but not sure which way to go with the pulley. I have read that advancing the timing is the way to go for more power, but as it is described, the way I think of it is retarding the pump not advancing it.
As I understand it, you adjust the pump so it injects fuel later than standard after TDC. To me that is retarding the pump, but advancing the engine timing. I am somewhat confused by this as it is called advancing the pump timing!
Can anyone clarify which way I should turn the engine and by how much when I lock the pump with a 6mm timing pin and crack off the 3 x 13mm bolts?
FYI I have also turned up the max fuel by around 40 degrees and decreased the boost compensator from 7 turns out to 2 turns out. I need to turn that out more though as this was a starting value and I have not got enough fuel on boost yet. I want to get the timing right first before I adjust the fuel again.
