Default Power on the cheap

I bought a 1998 fiesta a while back with the 1.3 engine, its bin sitting a while and now I'm contemplating spending some time and money on it, the main question is value for money what is the best option to do: I have so far rebuild the 1.3 and fit bike carbs, or fit a 1.7 puma lump, fit the 2.0 mon zetec engine, build a zvh N/A , or fit a cvh turbo. I'm basically look at time and money as cos its not the greatest shape fiesta I don't to throw money at it but at the same time I'm doing it for ford fair so I want it too look gud too, if any1 can think of a better option it'll be gud to hear it

If you want power on the cheap, sell it, buy a Volvo 850 T5 or T5-R, and RICO it for 330hp. Should be able to get one for £850 ish.

The best bet there would be a puma lump, and if the carbs are ok for the size of engine, swap them over, its not too difficult a conversion to do, shouldnt take more than a week end to do it, and there are plenty of puma lumps available. Any pics of the car??

You sure about both?

Just a rico map wont get 330bhp, and as for a T5R being £850, i'd check prices

And how reliable will a £850 T5 be?

I'm doing a similar thing just now, Puma lump into a base model mk5.

I bought a complete and driving 1700 Puma for £250 so I have everything to do the conversion plus alloys etc, so its a cheap way to more power. There is a comprehensive guide on www.zsoc.co.uk to the conversion and they are all very helpful on there.

The wiring sounds pretty straightforward, as you basically trasfer the engine loom + ECU from Puma straight over to Fiesta and all plugs in as it should

Best of luck whatever you do

2.0L zetec. More torque and power than a 1.7 zetec from a puma, cheaper and easier.
you will need a 1.8zetec sump and oil pickup pipe.
With a 4/2/1 and some other little fiddles it should make 150bhp which is more than good enough.

Don't need to change the sump if you use a blacktop

I've heard of reliability issue when fitting a 2.0 into them, not sure what these issues were but I was advised of avoiding the 2.0 and going puma due to it. Any idea what these could be?

The rs2000 lump will fit in a mk4/5 fez pretty easy. Ive seen a few done, 150ishbhp from the off, with the potential for more and cheap enough to buy.

Just get a pre-pats ecu, front mount starter gearbox, and modify the offside engine mount.

Getting around the wiring is easy enough
