Default APS High flow fuel pump 044 equivalent

Im sourcing the parts for my st170 na build, I have sourced a lift pump and swirl pot so just need the main fuel pump now. Been loking at Bosch 044 pumps but noticed this one at a very reaonable price.
http://www.jjcraceandrally.com/Produ...gn=APS%20Range

Can anyone shed any light on their experiences with it or does anyone have any advice/comments.

Cheers

no experience with that pump, but if it only works half as well as an 044 you'll be alright.

Seen that myself. Given no other pump exists that can match an 044 out of the dozens of pumps that are available these days....it's really hard to imagine how they can do it with a £40 pump.

the 044 really is an outstanding pump...more so considering it hasnt really changed for 20 odd years or more ! IMO, nothing matches it.

Of course the next question is...how much fuel flow/pressure do you actually need ?

the ultimate 044 type pump is the 413, but that is overkill for most applications (plus damn hard to get hold of unless you've got contacts in a motorsport team).
the 044 replica will as i said earlier, be more than you need for an st170 engine with mods.
even a 2wd cosworth fuel pump would be enough for your needs.

Is this for your throttle bodied engine Raj?

If so, an 044 is way more than you need for that sort of application in my opinion.

If it's a specific in-tank pump he needs, they are great little pumps. They'll never do a genuine 600hp though. 500hp is them flat out.

The Walbros are pretty much the standard upgrade for all things Jap, but they make fitting kits for most cars. They are great little pumps, very cheap too.

No sense buying an 044 if it's double what you need. But are you saying you bought the APS copy, and it had problems ?

Nobody has made a pump to equal the 044 yet....so I cant imagine a £40 copy doing it. But it may still be usable for some builds if it is of half decent quality.

Hi Wishy, thee 044 was the first obvious choice but the whole build is about trying to save money hence trying to search for be cheapest option but at the same time being an improvement (will text you in a bit)

Hi will, what you doing not working!!! lol I know it is overkill but if im honest, if the car appears to be a bit of a slouch in the later gears at the pod its having a zetec turbo lump fitted, so I thought as im doing the whole fuel system I may as well make it up to the job if I ever uprate the engine etc

Hi Higgsy, could do with some more feedback on that really, have you had an experience with this pump?

The pump will be mounted in the spare wheel well with the swirl pot and lift pump if thats relevent

Hi Cozy, not trying to cut corner just trying to save a few pennies but if its at a risk of sacrificing reliablility then its a no go hence putting this thread up to see if anyone else has used this pump

So back to the questions that actually matter.

How much fuel flow do you need ? And it's an external pump you want ?

If it's sub 500hp, even a Walbro GSL392 would do. It's the external version of the in-tank pump.

If it's sub 400hp there will be are a few Bosch pumps that would do that are much cheaper than an 044, or the above Walbro.

Well its a NA st170 engine on throttle bodies, but there may be scope in the future for a turbo hence trying to uprate it a bit, walbro one is pretty affordable though I think

Haven't fitted mine yet unfortunately but i've always heard good feedback from them which is why i bought it, and you really cannot grumble at the cost. I think anything under £100 is a good deal!
