I'd go for a little Corsa. Spares plentiful, easy to fix, cheap to insure and buy. My son's got one. It's been cat C'd 3 times and each time we've put it back together ourselves using 2nd hand parts from the scrappy or Ebay.

Fiesta MK4 1.25 16v , cheap as chips, nippy enough yet frugal and reliable. Nice to drive around town and so many to choose from picking up a nice one will be easy.

If you go the mk4 route over the mk5 you'll get a better example as they are less sort after than the mk5. And the KA's tend to be even more £££ as they are more popular.

Normally pick them up with a/c, electrics, cd player etc.
