He was shocked when I called him back to take a look at it, I don't think he looked over it enough and buying over the internet didn't help either. He was considering selling it, and even cutting his losses and scrapping it, the problem being he now had so much money invested in it already and the fact that it was a matching numbers car , he decided to push on. The after market parts for the Mustang range of cars is massive, what I did find though was that a lot of them where made in Korea and some of the bits looked good but not up to the job.

This reminds me of the Gran Torino my sister had!!! Fella arrived and bought the rolling shell off her, stripped it back...was as bad as this and he basically cut rotten parts out of already situated/completed panels, and made the rest up with new metal (as replacement panels where non existant in the uk). After 6 months, it was on the road with the starsky and hutch livery and a merc E300 diesel engine, and is used as a partial daily driver!!

It is being painted its origional colour Jade black, which looks like a ultra dark green pearl. The car was also ordered with the black out hood option from the factory so it will be having that as well. The car is going back to origional as much as possible with it being a all matching numbers car.

I welded this bar on the roof as a brace, the roof skin is comming off later anyway.

And here is a few pictures showing that the welding has penetrated correctly.

Tried to replicate this extra little panel that welds to the side of the front inner chassis legs....

This one is where a hose pipe comes out. the metal had been ripped for some reason.

This is the other rear inner arch patch work....

And this is the rest of the stitch welding in the engine bay and inner wings.

Also managed to cut the main part of the roof skin out.

Got most of the remains of the roofskin off.
Drilling through the old spot-welds:

....then remove them with hammer and chisel:

....then give it a good clean-up before a coat of red-oxide:

First I took the rest of the old roof off.

Soon as that came away, more work. The section under the roof and some of the gutter was a little weak (The roof is spot welded along the top of the gutter so it needs to be strong )

Couple of hours later it's welded.

Here is the new skin ready to go on,it should be spot welded but not having access to a good one I decided to plug weld it.

Had to spend a little time getting it to fit in the right place before clamping it all up.

This is it welded on ,if it looks a little strange that's because both roof and rear quarter has a deep channel in it they only plug welded it across from the factory and then lead loaded it. I have plugged it across and also seam welded it. This will stop it flexing and be a much stronger job. I just want to make sure it is built to last.

Almost on ,it just needs welding onto the gutter rails although one still needs a little more work to finish it.

I have finished all the welding to the shell now and managed to get the drivers door to fit before welding the skin on for good . Beat out the rear quarter around the dummy vent as it had some damage around it.

Also fitted and lined up the rear trims near the boot.
