Default HELP!!! P100 rear lights are the the same as escort van

Hi
I am currently doing a bit of work on my p100. I found that the bulb holders on the rear lights are completely destroyed with rust and cant be fixed. I also need new rear lenses as. I heard the p100 rear lights are the same as an escort van rear ones. I am thinking escort van ones will be easier to find in ireland then p100 one. But i dont know what year of escort vanand id like to speak with some one with a definite answer as to if they will fit or not. I am also looking for a p100 hand brake cable.Any help would be great folks.

i am sure there is a diffrance just cant remember what ... i think the bulb holders are diffrent for the stop/tail as i needed holders but managed to get lights from another p100 .
as for the light /lens you can buy brand new ones from ebay
imo the lights on the back of them are a nightmare

Escort van and p100 rear clusters are 100% the same fitment and bulb holders. The only difference is that that the p100 has a sort of stepped brake light lens AMD the escort is the same as the rest of the cluster if that makes sense. Hard to explain. I'll post some pics.

well i checked every escort van i could find and the bulb holder for stop/tail was diffrent , the rest of the holders where the same , and as for the lamp the p100 has the step part your talking about , the guy could buy these from ebay for around the £20 mark each so thats what i would be doing and have already done rather than put old lights back in

Firstly thanks to all who replied. This info is very very useful. As p100 in Ireland are beyond rare let alone spares. The escort lights will be a lot easier to find i would think anyway. Been have a little bother with starting it. Anyone know about p100 lacking something called a cold start unit?

Default lights and yip 1.8 td

Hi
To escort mk3rwd is it bulb holders your talking about? And Dixie what condition are they in as i am going for a doe test with it soon and i am hearing they are strict. But if they are in ok nick il take them no prob.
And cheers for the help folks i am very thankful.I was starting to get worried about parts for this thing.
And ya its the 1.8 td. It can be hard to start on cold morning and am wondering can a cold start unit be added to combat this.

here a snap of the truck itself unfortunately haven't been able to drive it all that much due to the lights and a now fixed diesel leak. It seems to be a south African import.

hi mate change the glow plugs , and if its still poor there is a black box(works as a timer on how long it heats) on the passengers inner wing if that mucks up it may not start , mines went and a new one was £80 , i just got a second hand one , and keep it serviced , the 1.8td likes a good heat in the morning .
i killed mine coming up the m6 lol the keyway in the crank is crap always break , mines did on two seperate engines , in the end i throw it and stuck in a 2ltr pinto

Default rear cover

Hi
I maybe interested in the rear cover in a few weeks depending on the cost of it. And i replaced the glow plugs and it worked a treat. I intend on mildly modifying it. But firstly i want it running and usable. And then power steering and a stereo (funds a tight). After i have that stage done. Id like to get some slotmags and lower the back with modifieded leaf springs but this may cost a fortune.I have thought of the lowering block route but id like clearance underneath. I have also heard that a volvo axial will go on the back this would be great as it would open up a lot more choice when it comes to wheels. Theres not much in the 5 stud available.

hi mate i am in no hurry to sell it and tbh it wont be silly price as i wont need it agein , and thats good i changed mines every year just before winter lol and i had a capri rear axle on mine with the original springs with 2" lowering blocks ( i still have the blocks lol but no extended u bolts ) and by doing this it gives you the 4 stud and then change the front hubs and thats it lol , the capri axle only needs the spring saddles moved out , handbrake cable i used a disc sierra cable with two bit welded on just behind the spring saddle for the cable to go throw , cut a notch in the leaver from the drum and put it on .
bad points of this
speedo will run slow
with the wheels i used i had to use 1" spacers on each side (hard on wheel bearings)
the ratio of the diff was 3.09 and needed lots of slipping the clutch to start moving , maybe you could get a diffrent ratio to be better
this is a much easier and cheaper way to get to 4 stud
only thing is if its used for work ie 1 tonne payload watch what wheels you get as car axle /wheels/parts are not made to do this
hope this gives you some help

Default cheers

Cheers for the reply. Hmm i heard the capri axials are even rarer to come by. I dont like the sound of the different gear ratios either. But wondering could i but in a similar ratio to the original p100 axial? I would like to keep the 1.8 td engine as its dirt cheap to run. I will be using the p100 for work but i wont be carrying anything of major weight in it. But i wos thinking custom springs that would sit lower would be great as i would nt lose the load capacity just in case i do need to put something heavy in to it.And perhaps i could shop around for 5 stud wheels. Have you any idea of the wheel fitment on the standard 5 stud p100 set up?

hi , tbh i have no idea if you could match the ratio , the capri axles seem to be around the 150-200 mark but at that price i guess they would need brakes and other things , i still have a brand new diff cover for a capri rear axle lol, and tbh there is a good few 5 stud wheels on the market , look at ebay and see theres lots

i imagine there is others that will fit , but it really needs to follow the shape of the cab to look right .

Default Truckman top

Ya good point. Anyones of other trucks will look pretty shit. Perhaps il color match the truckman top with the rest of it. Any how as my truck is away and i cant check. I just wanted to cross check the wheel fitment sizes i have researched. If some one could give a nod if they are correct it would be great.
Model: P100 Pick Up: Year: 82 - 92PCD: 5x127 Offset: 41>

Change the front hubs and rear axle to four stud. Its a simple job. Capri axle and 2wd cos front hubs and four pots. Your open your wheel choice by 75%...... or put a set of granny cos wheels on, they cool smart IMHO.
