What work do you have to do on the mounts to get a zetec block into a mk4? I am thinking of doing this conversion to my mk4 cabby.

any info would be appreciated

Thanks

I hope I have not upset you PhilM

It’s just I was unawares you could get a Core Plug that size. And I guess you put 3 bolts in the holes as well then.

But I do think a nice alloy plate would look better.

No Roosie, I can get you one tho?

No need to put bolts in the holes.......as they dont penetrate through the block anyway

the engine looks good m8 but i have a few questions?????
1*are those vauhall 16v pistons or calibra turbo pistons?
2*are you making/using any adaptor plates to get the inlet to fit the 16v head and space the throttle body up as it dont look like you have them on by the photo?
3*what management are you going to use?
4*how are you going to get around the throttle cable braket hitting the back of the head?

As you might gather by the questions i'm also looking in to making my own zetec turbo
only i'm thinking off keeping it 1.8 for ease and convenience and besides im only hoping to get 200bhp max if i'm really lucky (on a good day with the wind behind me )
If it works out good in the end i might put a bit more money into it and go 2.1 in the end

Calibra turbo mate as im going to be running 20psi

its hard to see but there is a spacer plate there its very thin u dont need much

3*what management are you going to use?
Secs

4*how are you going to get around the throttle cable braket hitting the back of the head?

Havent thought about that yet not much of a issue

well my main concern is that i've been told that once you get over 200 bhp with the amount of torque that goes along with it, the gearbox is the weakest link and things start going pear shaped and i dont fancey swapping gearboxes every 2-3months or paying 1500 for a quaife box.
the other ting i forgot to ask was about the pistons you have used how did you come to get hold of them as they look used????
and if so how much did you give for them???

Gavintwopies

The S1 and S2 gearboxes are good for 200 to 250bhp and after that they don't last very long like you said.
I am using a 130 ps 16v Zetec for my convertion it has higher profile cams and oil jet under the pistons. it should make 200 bhp easy as long as i keep the charge air temp down. so i will put a large intercooler on.

Have you kept standard valve springs? Can you use standard spark plugs too?

how have you mounted the inlet to the head have you just re-tapped the head to match the inlet or have you got studs in your adaptor plate while mounting the adaptor plate to the head using the original mounting holes ???? hence no re-tapping required of the head

just i'm in to minds of which way to do it myself????
and i'd rather use the tried and tested way

Have you tried putting the Throttle body on yet then?

I think your need a plate to raise it a bit m8.
