Default For all the rally boys out there a few questions??

Hi im currently building my first stage rally car which isnt the issue

The issue is:
What is the rule on out of date extinguishers? I have looked in the MSA blue book and I have the right extinguishers but they are passed there service date but still in the GREEN!! so what is the rule? I have looked on the MSA FAQ's and is says there is no requirements but I know what scrutineers can be like?

i cant remember the bloody other question but gaurantee i walk outside and remember it

Thanks in advance for any help

Personally I would say fail (though I'm no scruitineer) as its more likely to fail outside its service date. Perhaps its est to buy a new one for in the car and keep that one for in th garage/paddock?

No requirement for extinguishers to be in date, but good practice to have them tested.

I agree with that, nearly every rally I have done they just look at the gauge and thats about it!! Or they just check the operation of the pull cables !!

Excellent thanks for your help guys.
I just had it clarified, no date is required for rallying but obviously it has to be a regulated fire extinguisher (which they are) of course the gauge has to be green and has to weigh the required amount (if the scrutineer was being formal)
The issue with indate is more so with racing
Thanks all for your input

That's an odd one, why does the Motorsport discipline matter? Surely fire is fire and if the use by date is not good for on, it's not good for the other?

There you go, carry a 2 litre bottle of piss, much cheaper. Or depending on how much cash you have invested in the car buy a new in date one lol

I remember a friend of mine arguing with a scrutineer about the type of pipework that was ran in the car, he only had a nylon type, the scrutineer told him if the fire was next to the pipe then the pipe would melt and leak????????

I said, would that not then put the fire out then?

It all went quiet, and the response was it has to be a lined ally type as per the rules.

lol

A service is around Ł50-Ł60 as far as i mind. Had one recharged couple of weeks ago after being discharged and it was electric so cost a good bit more.

Sounds like a good set up to me, maybe don't have a wee before the event then you have that for back up
