Hi guys

Just recently ive noticed the steering on my Fiesta being a bit vague and very much lighter than it used to be, also, you can be going in a straight line with no change to the steering, all of a sudden the car will head off left/right, still with no change to the steering

This is accompanied by what can only be described as a knock coming from where the drivers side front wheel is, this is heard when going over bumps and when the steering is all the way over to the right and moving slowly, it doesnt sound like a driveshaft as ive had one go already and know what it sounds like

Any ideas?

Track rod end or bottom arm completely shagged would be first guess.

 

Yup, a bush or a ball joint has failed.

 

I would say a 'CV joint', or what has been said.

Thanks guys, jacked the car up to try and see if there was any play, couldn't find any, will get it looked at very soon

Try the UJ at the bottom of the coloum.

 

Try top mounts too, jack it up and try and push the wheel up, had a ka that needed one was fucking lethal when it caught the camber in the road

 

After reading this about the camber I have to say, the steering changes depending on the camber of the road, car leaning to the right, have to steer to the left to continue straight, car leaning to left, have to steer right to keep the car straight, it didn't do that when i bought it

 

Checked everything and the only thing we can find is play in the rack. This really annoys me when its a 2004 car thats got 84000 on the clock, last owner must have been pretty rough with the car because so far its needed a service, new wheel bearing after it collapsed and practically ate itself and the stub axle, and now the steering rack
