Default Is there a car out there???

Have a bit of a dillema. I'm looking to change my car in the next couple of months and have been searching and searching for something I would like but honestly there is nothin out there that I would even consider.

This is where you all come in...........My question to you all is can you recommend me a new motor?

Criteria:

Any car/4x4/estate considered
Must be newer than 2008/9
Must be diesel & have more than 35/40mpg
Must have 4/5 doors
Must be in excess of 150bhp
Must be asthetically pleasing (to me)
Must be no more than 20k (for that money Id be expecting brand new) older the car the less I would pay for it.

Am I just being to picky?

It's probably just me and I am aware this is a ford forum but theres something about paying 20k for a new Ford (especially a mondy) that doesnt quite agree with me. I paid 23k for my current BMW which is quite a high spec - only 3k difference. I can see a lot of depreciation on that one as wel.

Is it me or have prices really shot up over the last 2-3 years for that criterion. Its driving me insane

I'd get one that was a few years old and save a good few K.

I think buying ANY newish car is madness, and even if I was minted I wouldn't want to take the depreciation hit.

My current car lost over Ł20K in four years!!!

Its a loose, loose situation.

I do like the Audi A4 estates but they are mega money for the age and mileage but they hold their money really well as reflected in current used price market. I cant bring myself to fork out 17k for something that has 60k on it and is 4 years old.

On the other hand you look at mondy's and insignia's that you can pick up for 17k which are less than a year old but you know in 5 years time you will have lost a shed load in depreciation and would be lucky to see a return of anywhere near 10k.

BMW 330d estates are sought of in between the two but I think I'm bored of BMW now. Plus I'd probably be looking at either down grading or getting one that is older than the one I have now.

U will buy a 2008 mondeo diesel here in Ireland for approx 8000 to 9000 euro which with the current euro to sterling exchange rate is fuck all

For example and on uk plates already

At 6400 euro it's a steal, spend a grand replacing a few bits and you have a car for fuck all

Or an 09 for similar money

What about a leon FR. look great and about 5/6k cheaper than the equivalent Golf. 170bhp and 350n/m torque as standard. consumption 45/55 mpg.

We bought ours when they were vat free which brought them down to about Ł17k. Nearly 3 years down the line and its retail is still nearly Ł14k(had gap phone me the other day and thats what they said a insurance company would pay out) so when its nearly 3 years old it will have only lost about Ł3k. we have done 28k miles in it aswell trouble free.

Never spend more than Ł6k on a mondeo, they still have lots of fuelling problems even at that age.
Shame as their a nice enough motor.
Passat tdi would be my choice or anything jap.
