Firstly new here and need someones technical assistance please.

I am rebuilding a ford 2008 galaxy engine, 1.8tdci qywa. The head had been removed by someone else after belt snapped. Replacement head fitted, also the engine is out making life easier, can someone explain setting the engine to tdc before fitting the new belt and tensioner..Any help greatly appreciated..

Isnt the timing belt just for the cam timing and fuel pump timing on these engines. The crank is chain driven and that drives the pump.

Welcome by the way.

There a small mark on pump line that up and take cam cover off and there a slot on back off cam to lock it off loosen front pully off cam , fit belt and tension it then tighten pulley

There also a locking pin for the crank that goes through the block

There is no mark on crank I don't think you use a pin which locks the crank if the timing mark is ok on pump crank should be ok, there should be a slot in cam shaft at back which you use a flat bar I just use a spanner! But don't use that to hold it while you slacked cam pully off of it will snap

Understand the pump and crank, thanks, so just set the pump mark and as chain inside the crank will be in the right place.

... the slot on the back of the cam is horizontal so could be one of two ways, how will I know what way?

And why do I slacken off cam pulley?

Sorry to keep asking questions, but better to be sure before fitting engine back in..

The slot is off set and the bar you fit will fit flush I to the slot and flat on the head it will only go in one wAy, the pully is slackened off to allow all the slack to be took out off the belt correctly

There is two belts on this engine!
Belt between the pump and crank and another belt between the pump and the cam!

Yes thanks.
Any idea how to access the crank to pump belt? As I believe this belt has snapped or teeth sheared due to the pump/cam not turning.
I don't think a faulty cam sensor would cause the pump not to engage the cam belt to drive the camshaft, but could be wrong.
Also suspect further damage, i.e bent valves

It's behind the oil pump on the side of the engine.

What needs removing to access it? cam to pump belt, fuel inj pump pulley then remove a cover to access the belt-in-oil
Or is it a little more involved than that? aux belt, tensioners and other pulleys?

Thankyou, I really do appreciate your help!
