As above,my 2.0l focus fans don,t cut in when hot.if I unplug the temp sensor then the fans cut in .fans work with air con, just not when car is hot.
All help appreciated.

I had a stepper water temp gauge plumbed into the top hose and mine would cut in generally anything between 98degC-102degC. I've had them cut in as late as 108degC before. I would say anything above 110-115 is the danger area.
EDIT: Zetec engines inherently run warmer than most engines.

I thought they cut in at 90 .There,s no temp sensor near battery only the diode on the fan shroud. The gauge doesn't move above the centre but engine seems very hot. Will run it upto 98+ and see if it kicks in. Cheers for pointers.

The 1.8 n 2ltr focuses ive seen have had the sensor next to the battery.A lad from work has a ST170 and he said the other day his fan hardly ever kicks in too.
I take it your getting hot air inside the car.

Yes good heater and car runs fine,I,m asking because when I got the car 4weeks ago someone had wired In a screw in sensor from an early escort to the fan loom .then cable tied it to the battery.if I took plug off screw in sensor and bridged it with wire then the fan would kick in.
I scrapped all the bodged stuff and fitted new sensor which screws in head at the back left of the engine under the alternator.
Ran it upto 90o but fans didn't kick in so will try to run it hotter

That's the underbonnet air temperture sensor that will make the fans cut in if it gets too hot. Yes it looks like a bodge, cable tied to the battery box, but that's just how it left the ford production line.

Doesn't show up in the Haynes manual wiring diagram. Also there was a fuse that didn't, look factory just bodged in there. And finally the 2 focus 2ltr that I've seen in the scrapyard don,t have it either....
