The car is advertised on gumtree at the moment and quite cheap. The pictures have the plate blanked out. The guy selling it is a total w*nker! I had arranged to view the car and meet at the forth road bridge. I was all set to come down and asked for the reg to do an HPI check. C505FNY. I thought to myself, I recognise the reg. Did a check, came back stolen in 1991, not a big deal as it was cheap but it was advertised as HPI clear. He knew about it so knew fine well it wasn't HPI clear. He also told me he had owned it 4.5 years and it was his summer/weekend car and it has only had one patch of welding on the sill. I noticed on the HPI check that the last keeper change was June this year. I then clicked why I recognised the reg, it was a car that was local to me and was owned by someone I knew so I actually knew the car. It was absolutely rotten when he sold it in the summer.
Things the seller lied to me about:
How long he had owned it (4.5 years was actually 6 months)
No rust - its a rot box
Only had one patch - If it has been sorted it would have needed every area underneath welded.
I sent the guy a polite text saying I wasn't interested and that I knew the car bla bla. His reply's were a bit wierd and he got very abusive asking if I was on drugs, f*ck you faggot, you don't get S1's with no keeper changes (I never said you did haha) etc etc.
So buyers beware, C505 FNY is not as described, the owner is a liar and the pictures in the advert are not of the same car. One picture has a 4" rolltip and the other is 3.5", the wheels are different and there are some other things.
BEWARE!!

That would have originally been from down my way,but more bridgend cardiff way.
IF, and I'm not 100% it is the one I'm thinking of it used to be one of the best looking ones I'd ever seen, owned by a bouncer from west cross who knew his stuff on these and really cared for it,I never even saw it with a speck of dirt on it!!
Can't remember if his was c505fny or c515fny, I'm going back 15 odd years, I was sure he'd mentioned that it had been nicked once when he owned it.
He was a really decent bloke and IIRC the car had a few bits done to it under the bonnet, seem to think around 200bhp which wasn't bad back then.

It still looks nice on the outside, well it did when it was in Peterhead but was rotten underneath
Just saw the replies on this post....avoid this car at all costs!!!
As said, it was for sale locally and I stopped to look at it one day, appeared to be tidy and straight so I HPI'd it and came back stolen in 1991 and ownership lies with insurance compnay, as C8SSE said. At this point I lost all interest in the car.
A good mate of mine then went to see it, as had always wanted one and it was so close to us. I told him about the HPi stuff so he phoned the number given, and they advised it had all been sorted out at the time and looked like database hadn't been updated. He phoned me to say there were a few dodgy looking bits on it, and then we managed to get in touch with a previous owner on Facebook who said to beware of the car - it was a total rotbox and he had lost a lot of cash on it. The only thing going for it was the engine, which was according to a few people who knew the car, as sweet as you like having just had a rebuild at Agra in Dundee.
It then disappeared for a bit, and the same mate spotted an S1 on Gumtree which the advertiser had owned for over 6 years, with the number plates blanked out and each picture looked to be a different car. We had a feeling it would be C505 but he went over one night for a look, and it was the same car. Started to get even more dodgy at this point, as the seller was based in Edinburgh, however the car was stored in Dunfermline and it was registered to someone in Alloa?!? My mate had a good poke about it this time to find glassfibre in inner wings and all over floor and seat mounts, sill lips missing and various other bad repairs. Roof was also bad above tailgate hinges. He jokingly offered the boy £2k and he was thinking about it, but turned it down.
I've just noticed it on Gumtree again today, for £3150 with again different pictures and not one of the pics is of C505 FNY. He has also listed a engine spec which is 90% nonsense, and claims to have piles of receipts which is also bullsh*t.

Was he as nice to your mate as he was to me or a text gangster? haha
Nothing like reviving a old thread!! This series one finally ended up with me and to be fair to it the exterior was extremely presentable, the engine & box are absolutely as sweet as a nut but.... Yes lots of filler underneath! I'm sure it took longer to fill & paint than to do it properly!
Well it's now had 4x floor pans, inner & outter sills, both inner wings... Along with any other welding that was
needed,, it's absolutely rock solid and currently in for paint now
Not sure if anyone will reply to this but thought id comment on here now!

Nearly back on the road!!
Awesome mate, if you got it at the right price the work was defo worth it, can't beat the look of a series 1
I know a bit about the car,I bought it from a guy local to me,got it running the raffled it on the series on site and Facebook.
The winner swapped the interior and a few other bits and raffled it again.
The car was made of filter but the engine had been rebuilt recently and there was a receipt.
P.m me and I can tell you more.
Lee
Hi Lee yes I bought it from the guy that had won it, I was more than happy with what I paid... There was a lot & I mean a lot of filler underneath... But think most series 1s now have had to of had a lot of work & once all the rot & filler had been cut out it was much better than I had initially thought!! I've had it out on trade plates the other day and it runs & boosts really well im over the moon with it!
Yes,it was unbelievable how much filler there was around the inner wings, sills etc but in its defence there did not seem to be any previous welding that I could see and was worth saving, the guy I was halfs with and myself did not have the time to spend putting it right.
Sent you a p.m.
Wow that'll be solid for years to come Mate,
Glad these are being saved now. I expect the rough saph cossies are being saved also now rather than being broke up in some cases
