Anyone been in or own/owned a monaro vxr?
Have been looking into these latley as theyve started to get quite cheap now, and was after some opinions about them as there not very common and you dont hear a lot about them. Thanks!
Think that Mike C has/had one of these.
For what it's worth, I think they're absolutely amazing looking/sounding/going cars... and severely understressed as standard if you are planning to throw a few mods at it.
Cheers,
Grant

My mate has an early 5.7 LS1 engined Monaro in blue, very rare. Sounds gorgeous, got a lot of grunt but was very long geared until he swapped the diff. Goes like fuck now. Would probably sell it for the right price. It's mint, fully undersealed from new, quickshift, factory sports exhaust etc.
Same bloke is just putting the finishing touches to a LS1 engined Grp 4 Mk 2 Escort, it's a bit bonkers.
Another mate has a VXR8, LS3 6.2. Now that is nice, really does shift and sounds amazing. Massive car and hustles really well round a track too for the size of it.
Another bloke I know has an original VXR and has just supercharged it, should be around 600bhp now, might be taking it to Rockingham in a couple of weeks...

Yes I owned one for just under three and half years as my everyday car. Was 6 months old when I bought it.
Don't have a bad word to say about it, was rapid, comfortable, easy to drive, simple no nonsense huge engine and six speed manual gearbox. Handled so, so well for such a big car (and it really is huge for a 2dr Coupe).
Build quality was adequate. Not the greatest quality of plastics used inside, but everything felt chunky and not like it was going to break.
Seats were wonderfully supportive. Boot was pretty small, but was pretty good for a car of its type I suppose. The earlier 5.7's had a bigger boot, but the 6.0's boot was half taken up by the fuel tank.
Steering was nice, gearbox was manly and needed a firm hand, but not overly so like a TVR.
And you could get sensible MPG too. 28 on a good run, I usually averaged 23. It's easily to get that down to single figures though if you want to play, but the engine is rarely stressed under normal used. A couple of thousand RPM at 80mph, so doesn't burn fuel like you'd expect when cruising.

i have been in the back of one, 4 up with barton, the ex editor of total vauxhall mag driving the VXR8 i think it was..
it was big, red, and pretty bloody quick!
upset half of malmesbury at 5pm on a friday night be drifting it round a big roundabout, and then doing a massive rolling burn out that litterally stopped traffic as there was just tyre smoke everywhere!
hooligan tool and there are a few vids of turbo'd/supercharged one and boy do they go!
id have one!

But you need to consider boot space. As said above only the early 5.7 cars have a large boot. The 6.0 versions have the fuel tank behind the rear seats, so it takes up a lot of boost space. To chuck an LPG tank in there as well, even if it is a spare wheel one will reduce it even further.
Obviously boot space will matter to some, and not others though
