Default Selling my car to a ford dealership, should I be concerned?

Put my focus up for sale and had a call from a Evans salesman wanting to buy it to sell to a customer.
I have checked it out and everything seems legit but I'm worried that they are going to give me a cheque when the car is collected and send off a cheque to pay off the remainder of the finance when they get the car.
Has anybody had dealings like this before with main dealers?I'm getting what I want for the car but I didn't think anybody used cheques anymore as it takes 5 days for it to clear, meanwhile they have my car???

Let them pay the remaining balance of the finance, then pay in the heque they are giving you and don't release the car until the money has cleared in your bank.

We sold grandads 1 year old 980 mile 2008 Fabia 1.2 to a Skoda dealer a few years ago. Deal was perfect. He flew down from Leeds to Exeter where we met him, he paid us then drove home in it. The car want on their website rather than for a specific customer.

dealers are a lot sharper for quality used than they used to be,

dont let car go untill cheques cleared, they will understand as thats how they work!

money transfer also good idea.

Just tell them your concerns, and get them to pay you via bacs

As far as I know. You should get the money from the dealer, pay off the finance and then get a fax or letter from the finance company saying you no longer owe money on the car. Then the dealer can take it off your hands.

No dealer with a brain would do that.. the dealer will settle the finance and give the customer anything above the settlement owed

I have done it before, they transfered money by bacs to me after they had paid off the finance company, which i checked with independently before i gave him the car. You would be mad to do it with a cheque!

Correct.

You'll be fine lee,the dealers only doing it that way mate as it saves a few £££ and takes longer to come from his account.
They can do bacs no bother.
Evans are a huge dealership.
