Default is it possible to check a t5 out of the car

hi chaps

just wondering is it possible to check these boxes for condition whilst out on the ground .i have 3 spare[i never broke a box in my life lol]that i have picked up over the 3 years will possibly sell on but dont want to sell these to find out they have a rumbling beaing or bad syncro etc .

can gearbox centres check these over ?or is their anything i can do myself

all advice appreciated

Bara uses a gearbox Dyno. I'm sure a specialist transmission company would have the same.

Only thing you can do is check it selects all gears and there's not too much play in the input shaft bearing no way of checking the syncro's really

thanks james ,i was thinking of opening them up for a look at the gears and to see if theirs any filings in the oil etc

Any of the rally boys here James would know whos the best to check them over locally... Im like you the only thing ive ever done with gearboxes/diffs is change the oil Havent a clue what im looking at inside them

They're simple enough to take to bits to inspect if you have a few hours spare, it's only a case of taking the back casing, bell housing, top casing off, can then inspect the gears and what not, I beleive there is a way of feeling for the syncros to see if they grab the gear well still but not 100% sure

cheers jimbo ,i will do some googling to see what i can come up with .i may take one apart to see over the next few days
