Default My Series 2 RST Project

Thought i would share with you guys my new project, ive been away from fords for a long while but always had a soft spot for them

ive always loved these and being 30 this year i decided i needed an early birthday present to myself as at the second all i do is build cars for other people i wanted another for myself, so here she is








currently has a turbo problem but that doesnt bother me as they are easy enough to change and i have a hybrid one availible, also has lots of electrical grimlins that need sorting but over all its in very nice condition that ive seen so far just needs a damn good steam clean and silly bits sorted

so far ive ripped all the interior out to clean it all up and pulled the cage out (its forsale btw so pm me if you want it) dash it to come out next to pull the crappy clifford out and find out what goes where wiring wise

from what i can gather this car has been very much one owners pride and joy but with alot of cars like this the last owner just didnt seem to care about it that much. but this is where i come in to restore the balance

if you used to own this car id love to hear from you or know who owned it, as the listing had next to no info atall on it so was massivly undersold in my honest opinion, saying that ive yet to really pull it apart so horror storys may be lurking

ill update this as and when the wife lets me get on with it

honestly from what ive seen its very good so far

has a nice full width fmic aswell which the add didnt mention also came with a load of parts aswell, inc a spare bottom end

engine sounds sweet aswell

only thing thats really annoyed me is they left the cage in loose rattling around so its wrecked the drivers rear doorcard so need to find one of those

Thanks guys, every time I look at the thing I smile

Picked up my brand new hybrid turbo today, just need to order the return elbow then its fitting away and then see how it runs.

todays update

ripped the dash out, got the turbo of (was well shot) also found the oil return was well knackered






old t3 v's hybrid t3





can someone tell me if this should have a vacum line connected?



also on the top hose what should the little t off connect too?

also can someone tell me if the oil return union that goes into the block should be a push fit like the pic below or should it screw in, its been modified aswell so maybe this is why the return split

oil return should be pressed into the block,
sure the vac pipe is for fuel pressure may be wrong though
the top pipe is the water feed for the turbo not needed as long as the rad one is also blanked

yes on the left hand side of the rad, thats blanked too

thanks mate, yea it looks like the fuel pressure regulator

someone correct me if im wrong but my s2 has never had a vac pipe running to that regulator in the picture and ive not come across one that has before.

that pipe has nothing going to it, dont worry peoples. nice looking s2 mate. if thats a ebay t34 you'll need a 5mm spacer so the compressor housing clears the block or you coud put the t3 compressor wheel and housing on it, be the same as a stg3 turbo in theory

ok bit of an update

been stock piling bits for it

nomad pillar pod will house my mocal boost gauge, twins custom dash pod will house my mocal dual gauge (oil temp and oil pressure), alloy airtec rad, digital volt gauge to go in centre console

so now i need to get it all fitted and run the car up to see what im working with, im moving the car to my workshop in the next few weeks so will be able to get on with it a little better with the correct tools which always helps

a question for you guys. the car had twin cooling fans on the front of the intercooler, will this be man enough or should i be trying to run a sucker fan on the back of the rad or put the fans directly on the front of the rad and move the intercooler forward? i will be running a kenlowe fan controller aswell

ok so drove the car for the first time over the chrismas break and to be honest its abit of a pig at the min

Jobs to do from memory

Find a new tailgate
Sort wipers as they wont park without having a jerky spazim
Bad earth on the headlights
Engine breathing real heavy (think this may be a typical cvh problem tho)
Got a really bad cold start problem asin it will flatten the battery before it fires – doesn’t do this when sitting in the garage which is odd
Generally runs abit poo (getting it setup and rolling roaded will fix this I hope
Find out why it will only boost to 5psi
Fix the steering column as all the bushes seem busted
Replace both electric window motors or recon them or rewire the whole lot to make sure the loom isn’t at fault, (apparently a common problem)
Fix the door cards and the rear seat base
Rewire the rest of the car to make sure all the bits and pieces work as they should
Remove the front abs system as its pants
convert to mk3 mondeo front calipers and st170 discs
Sort the rear brakes as they don’t work atall, going to convert to 2wd cossie rear disc and re plumb the sytem so i can run a bias valve for the rear
Only a little list

Default now going efi with ofam

small update on this

now going down the efi route, ordered an ofam from rob @boostmonkeys and orderd an wideband innovate kit from burtons so i can have the ecu run in closed loop mode so it will self tune (well thats the plan anyway)

collecting most of the parts needed to carry out the conversion tomorrow

pulled the old head of to find a bit of a lip on the bore of the block but the compressions were all 10 bar so not sure to do about this at the momeent

im going to drop the engine off to my engine builder and see what he says, i have a spare block aswell so will take both and go from there

now have st170 discs and mk3 mondeo calipers and pads so thats a job to have a look at on the weekend if i get a chance

started fitting them last week, got some 12mm spacers off ebay that helped and the longer bolts, still need a couple more mm spacing though so the carrier sits in the middle of the disc, as it stands if i do the carrier up tight it locks the disc solid so little bit more playing about needed

havent dont much to the car for a long time to be honest, still need to get the block out so i can send that away, still need to take the dash back out to i can pull the loom out

cant make up my mind whether to get the dash flocked or not while its out

also still pulling all the old abs crap off and still hunting sierra rear callipers to get started on the rear disc conversion aswell

once ive finished building this ill have more time for the s2 which i really cant wait for
