You need a amp clamp really to find that mate if not could use a muti-meter between battery and the live term! Try removing live from alternator maybe windings have gone to earth

yes am sure, have had positive lead disconnected for a day, as there is a o.3amp discarge , however i still think it could be the secondhand starter i bought.although a wiring diagram would help considerably

.3 of an amp is a "Parasitic" drain?

must be the used starter dragging battery down, but sometimes the spark is not at plugs?
changed coil pack, and flywheel sensor but no difference! just started the engine twice no problem then third time engine kept turning and turning

what does the ECU do? i thought it maybe the immobiliser but seems to work ok

No, I would say the reading you mention is nominal.

ECU = electronic control unit and basically manages the engine, amongst other things.

Are you plugs/leads decent?

If the starters draws to much current things will shut down i.e you need around 8volts to hold a relay open

I remember It also happens to me when i have that car. The battery was draining overnight. I checked that I had not left any lights on or anything. But I found the problem which is my car audio player. the memory circuit was draining the battery, then I change the audio system and it never happens again.

you can get a current testor that sits where the fuses go cheaply from maplins this will tell you which circuit is draining the battery!
