Default ST170 in a bad way :(

Hello All,

I'm after a bit of tech help, I've managed to spin my st out hit a kerb on the off rear wheel and ended up in a hedge!

The car is back at mine now and the rear left wheel is sticking out at a dodgy angle. The tailgate and rear bumper have some bad damage and will need replacing.

Anyone know of a good place to get these?

As far as mechanical/suspension/ brake damage goes, what are peoples experiences?

One other thing, the passenger seat airbag went off and has blown the stitiching in the seat and immobilised the engine. What can I do?

Any help would be much appreciated, I'll have photos tomorrow

Cheers

Mark

Have a look in the passenger side footwell, in the side plasti trim is a plastic button that's probably popped out. Press that in and it'll start.

With that amount of damage it's probably not worth repairing?

Hello folks,

I've just been out this morning removing rear bumper and wheel. The disc is sitting at a dodgy angle but none of the struts/beams look bent. Would it be possible to loosen a couple of the bolts off that arm and adjust?

take a look and see what you think,

once again any advice much appreciated

You've probably bent the stub axle.

Sorry, but if you are using a scissor jack and asking for advice on a forum that you have just joined then I doubt your ability to repair the car.

Just bite the bullet and get it professionally repaired for safety.

Thanks bookwyse,

got a problem, ask for a bit of help and get a response like that. I've only just got a ford hence "new member" and a scissor jack is all I've got,

managed to get replacement rear bumper and tailgate for under Ł100 which leaves stub axle/ rear beam ,

thanks for the vote of confidence, one thing I should let you know is that I am a mechanical engineer (pumps, compressors etc) just not worked on ford cars so thought a bit of advice might help from anyone who's done this before.

Thanks to everyone else

Seriously mate, invest in a proper jack and stands, they could save your life! It'll cost under 50 notes and a worthwhile investment for your own safety!

Give the guy a break ffs. Who's to say its not just on that shite jack for the pics and rough inspection? They are shite but if ford think they're good enough to lift the car then they must do a job. Id like to think he'd have the sense no To go under the car with just that keeping it up but come on guys just advise on what's asked. Jeezo.

Away to change my tampon now.

Sometimes I find axle stands annoying as I can't jack the car high enough to put them on the highest notch and usually the one below gives me sweet FA room to do anything so I make a little tower of bricks instead.

Sorry, but using that jack for inspection, or anything other than a quick wheel change at the side of the road is asking for trouble IMO. We're only saying it because it's dangerous, and could kill him...

i did that once while putting a fiesta engine in from underneith
mate came along and lent on it and the car landed on his hand which landed on the cambelt pulley
he still has the cool cambelt pulley scar but i lifted it off him lol
it was a 4 foot single brick tower mind lol

these days i have a 20 ton block and pulley or engine crane for lifting anything

Oh sod that mate mine is about a foot high and it is always 2 bricks wide. Would never trust a single brick tower especially 4 foot high!

alright ppl,

just an update on how its going, turned out stub axle was bent so this has been replaced with new discs and pads also. One last issue I have is car not starting since accident. Would this be because the airbag went off or is it a fuel auto cut off switch. Im struggling with this atm and the cars going to the bodyshop next Wednesday so need it sorting. Any ideas,

Thanks

Yup found it but it wasnt popped up so that eliminates that. But if people can drive with an airbag light on I wouldnt have thought my airbag situation would inhibit the engine?

Cheers

ffs bricks, there about as good as rubber knife, only use axle stands, ramps or blocks of wood, all you need is one cracked brick, if it breaks they will probably all break, your skull doesn't hold much weight before it cracks,
