Mondeo ST220 traction control/esp question
Hi all,
I sold my Mondeo ST220 on Tuesday, since then i've had the guy who had it off me calling up asking why it hasn't got a switch to turn the traction control off. I haven't got a clue, so does anyone know if it should of had this or not-was it an optional extra??
Here's the link to my ad, apparantly the switch is mean't to be next to the boot release button but if you look at my pics there is just a blank in there.

I had the car up for £3000 but let him have it for £2450 as I needed a quick sale, along with this button he has also kicked off that it has an oil leak and the power sterring pump is on it's way out-things he only noticed the day after buying it.
He has phoned up ranting saying I have ripped him off and wants his money back, I explained that i was unaware of any of these issues (which is completely true) and that he had all the time in the world to check the car over and I had nothing to hide with the car-all known issue were made clear to him. He also took it on a substantial test drive where i let him drive it as hard as he wanted, So therefore I explained that the car was sold as seen and I won't be giving his money back.
He then went on to say how he has just got out of prison and if I didn't want to refund him he will sort this out his own way. Again I told him there would be no refund and the money had already been spent on fee's for my new house-then he hung up.
Anyone know the answer regarding the switch, or how best to deal with the situation should this guy turn up on my doorstep?
Cheers

I think the £550 off the advertised price is enough to compensate for any repairs on an already cheap used car, as for the switch my ST TDCi and my 07 MK3 LX don't have traction control switches either, but my LX doesn't have traction control lol.
I found this online:
ESP is an option on all 00-07 Mondeos, it's not standard on any model in the range.
ESP & traction control is standard on the revised range from 07 on.

Sod that, you've sold the car so if he didn't identify any problems before he bought it that tough if you ask me! What's to say those problems didn't occur since he's had it? If his first concern is for where the esp switch is he's probably not the most careful owner after all!
If he turns up on your doorstep I'd have him done for harassment and sent straight back where he just came from!

politely tell him to get fucked
he should have looked at the car closer before he bought it and asked question before handing over the money
you've knocked 20% off the asking price so that's more than enough

Both my fathers 220's had ESP switches. One was a preface and one was facelift.
I do wonder if it's something to do with the fact you have a different radio to standard? But then why would it be because of that? Hmm.

Wait... why does your ST220 even have that Radio?
I thought at first it was because you had the 6CD changer. Then I remembered the standard Sony radio it should have has a 6CD changer built into it anyway?

^ that was the centre console of the facelift ST220 my father had. Excuse the sepia effect, I was obviously feeling artistic

The car definately had ESP, I felt it kick in a few times when pushing it around the odd bend-strange that it didn't have the switch to turn it off.
He said the oil leak appeared after he steamed cleaned the underneath, and maybe all the crap was the reason it wasn't noticed earlier-so therefore how can I be at fault?? He also said he noticed the power-steering was making a slight wine on the test drive, but put it down to low fluid-so again I can't see any fault on my behalf.
Thats exactly what I said, £500 off the asking price is a big drop
I thought the better sony stereo only came on the facelift models?? The only reason I can think off was that a previous owner had maybe broke the switch and got the wrong replacement. Until he mentioned it, I didn't even know there was mean't to be a switch.

esp and traction control are 2 different things
you've probably got traction control because even 2.0 focus's got that way back in 1999 but now even my works van has esp and it's got all of 85 brake
traction control stops you wheel spinning the power away
electronic stability control stops you going round corners too fast by braking individual wheels to stop you crashing

i would inform police of situation if he is just released from prison they would probably be happy for his new car registration. he also might have been released with conditions called rotl which means released on tempory licence he might be breaking his conditions as him threating you could be construed as antisocial behavior or threating behavior which is an offence.
