Default Driving to an MOT legalities? / Now an insurance thread lol

I know when driving to an MOT station it is OK to have no tax, as long as you are insured.

But I need to drive my van to an MOT station to get engineers report completed on it, if I have it on days insurance cover, would it be under the same law as driving for an MOT?

Or do I have to trailer it there?

Only answer if you know, guessing is no good lol

Thanks.

as above the mot station needs to have your vehicles details because if stopped and the police ring them to verify and they say they dont know, then you have had it

But it's not MOT'd when I am driving there, and wont be MOT'd when I leave lads.

Does that make a difference?

I would say its fine as I do it many times when picking up cars for my mates mot station, ins is the main thing and dont go shopping in the opposite direction to mot station etc as they will smell a rat if pulled over, most important thing is that the mot station has your details and you are booked in

You are covered for no MOT and tax if you are taking it to a pre booked MOT appointment. You are taking it for an engineers report therefore would not be covered. Either book it for an MOT at the same time or find a man with a trailer.

Can it be MOT'd at the same point?

Report is only for the change of details on the log book.

So in theory if I get it MOT'd same time as report, I'll be covered?

Yep. The legal wording is very specific to how you're covered. The aggro of getting done for no insurance means you need to tread carefully.

As long as the vehicle is insured, and the MOT is prebooked, you can drive there. There is no limit on how far you drive, the only proviso is that it is directly to the MOT station, not to B&Q, Maccy D's & sainsburys on the way.

you are also allowed to drive it to a place of repair - again pre-booked. You could argue the inspection and cursory set up is to ensure the car is in an adequate state of repair to go to an MoT test. As well as the obvious DVLA engine change report needs.

Just had a quote off of Flux for the year and they want £550

That was all mods declared, just for pleasure use and 3000 miles a year.

I pay less than that to drive my scooby every day

The name the case eludes me but there is actually case law to the contrary, involving a man who stopped to buy cigarettes.
