Hi guys just wondering when this solenoid actually begins to work at like which rpm? What are the symptoms of this beginning to fail. My car has has low poer across the rpm ranfe. I tend to have to use more throttle an car has no power bursts like it used to.

I have this very problem!

I got my ST170 a month ago, and the throttle response is practically none existent?!

Revving from idle it is Very unresponsive and driving through the rev range in each gear it is just really slow.

I have replaced both pre and post cat lambdas as they Dyed on me.

I would be very keen as Seddo to any light being shed on this issue??

(Not my only issue)

I have had it in the air 4 times so far looking for an exhaust leak which is non existent! I am pretty sure the ST170 is suppose to have a grunty sound to usual ..... mine sounds like it is blowing really bad from the front or underneath but looking there is no sights or sounds of a blow anywhere!

Secondly The top end has A Follower slapping tapping sound from the top end .... Also pretty sure this should not sound so rough .... or do they usually?

I am a more classic Ford owner usually with the XR2I's/3I's, Escort GTI's, RS Turbo's and Most recent my RS1800 So a 2002 motor is All German to me when it comes to the Different bits on the ST170

Any help would be a great help in clearing up my issues?

Thanks in advance

JAY

Jay, have you checked the cat? Might be blocked.

Hi jay guess what? We have the same exact problems it seems. The top end on mine has started to sound like the old fizzbomb an I'm worried there something up with the engine. It defo sounds like the tapping is coming from the engine where the downpipes bolt and also the exhaust resonates so badly it does sound like a leak although I can't find any either. Would a broken down cat through up a fault or engine light?

Have changed exhaust manifold Gasket .... No difference.

I have more than enough back pressure to Rule out the Cat being blocked.

Driving it to town today and Noticed on my way back it got some balls from somewhere and had some go, the reason i noticed this so much was not only did it pick up with more throttle response but the "Blowing" wasnt as noticeable, Also the engine note completely changed from a flat single note to an almost V6 sort of sound ...... Starting to think about the VVt in more depth, only problem is I dont really muck around with the VVt side of things so not certain where Wiring/Solenoid or if infact it is atall working and the engine note changing is the VVT kicking in and then stopping working again?

It is very confusing to say the least

Any other ideas or previous experience in this issue?

A bloody nightmare hey Seddo .... Have you got any further with yours?

have you checked the inlet manifold runner control thing? normally brings the engine management light on but still worth checking?

the STs have solid lifters so there all noisy top end i believe. just done a full service on mine and it still sounds like a TDCI lol

Which is what leads me to believe mine kicks in and out when it feels like it as it either goes well or shit

Mostly shit though lol
