If you do use nitro morse and a wire wheel, wear a long sleeved top, safety goggles and some gloves as its evil shit, make sure you get all the red off otherwise it will show up as lump s under the new paint, mine come out like this after i stripped, etch primed, base and laquer

Ok thanks, is the wire bush needed or will it just start to lift and peal off its self?
Ok, so after having no luck with the B&Q stuff i went and bought some Nitromorse and painted it all over the cover

Left it for a bit and gave it a 2nd coat, left it for 40ish mins then attacked it with a wire brush

It didnt work to well so i gave it another two coats and wire brushed it again

A little disapointed i took it to work and spent 3hours with emery cloth to get this

Going for paint tomorrow

Ah, I guess it was you who text me then? I been phoneless due to it fucking up and just dug out an old warhorse to use for now but Ive got no ones number. should have took it to SEM and got it blasted, probably would have only been a tenner or something.
Vapour blasting is the only way....anything else and you'll loose the original 'grain'
I've done mine and it would pass for new factory look.
Vapour blast, dust coat 2k primer, de nib it, very light coat of 2k VW torando red, satin laquer (very light) then machine off with a 5 inch pad for the matt swirl finish.
Can get pics if needed......
Blasting will kill it and powder coat is way to thick

Ill admit it looks a bit shiney under the lights in work, if it looks crap after ive skimed the top layer of paint off iill just re do it. Quite fancy that crackle finish but in red.
Good job mate, anyone reading, do not sand blast the cam cover, infact no engine parts, the sand embeds itself in the material and when hot the vibration sends it through the engine, seen many engines wiped out just after cam covers have been refurbed.
We have all our engine parts aqua blasted, it's more expensive but not in the long run.

Whatever the customer wants really, internal, external, swarf bins, pillar drill & cranes are the normal.
Never had a job that was to big tbh, internal & external can be pricey though as it normally takes around 4 hours to clean a mid sized lathe.
Most of the time it's overnight jobs so that they don't have to shut the machine down.
