Right, got my project car, a very tidy series 2, no visible rot, reasonable spec, on the journey back from collecting it the oil return split and sumped the engine contents all over the road. Pulled over to a stop and did the repait with the AA man, engine seems ok and could probably benefit from an oil change but as it’s a project car anyway I was considering building a zetec (or ZVH turbo) on a budget. Engine bay needs a clean and there are few odd bits so just thought I’d whip the engine out and see where I end up.

What would people budget for such an undertaking, and would it devalue the car?

I was thinking of running EFI, is it much work to splice looms etc, and is this different on full zetec to ZVH.

Also having broken 7 boxes on my last 2 turbos, what are the mods required to fit the stronger zetec 5 (or 6) speed box, custom driveshafts, hydraulic clutch etc.

This may take sometime but don’t have unlimited funds so will do a lot of the work myself, just curious as to peoples experiences for similar undertakings.

Also seen a few zetec/zvh turbo motors on ebay, are these a budget way of getting this done, or would I be likely to just inherit other peoples budgets.

I drive a focus RS as a daily so the old CVH seems a little lacklustre to me, I know the mk4 escort will never drive as well but I would like a nice solid engine in there to be enjoyed
