Default Skyline Guru's

How can I tell [without taking any notice of any badges on the back or sides of the car] what model a Skyline is?

I know nothing about them, but interested to know, especially telling whether or not one is a 2.6 GT-R.

Cheers guys

R34 GT-R 1999-2002

R33 GT-R 1995-1998

R32 GT-R 1989-1994

LOL, so a 1995 [M reg] model would be which shape?

C'mon though, I've read that GTS have GTR bodykits on, whats different under the bonnet?

And how much do you think a 95 M reg, 60k miler in silver would be worth?

If its got the GTR bodykit then il be 99% it HASNT got the wider GTR arches as thats a huge job.

R32/33/34 GTRs all have much wider arches than GTS models

Under the bonnet the simple way to check is GTS models have the inlet manifold n boost pipe like a RST- Ie the crossover pipe over the cam cover, GTRs dont, it is more like a Cossie where the pipes come from the front of the engine bay.

And the cam cover would say RB25 rather than RB26

And the breather pipes on the cam cover will come from the middle rather than the back, and it wont have a boost pipe with TWIN TURBO written on it in big red letters, and it will have 1 throttle rather than 6, and so on and so forth.

But the crossover pipe i think will do it for you

THAT'S what I'm talking about

Cheers dudes, much appreciated for both your pointers

Any idea of value, can't find a similar one on autotrader

Are the GT-R's a lot more popular/desireable that the GTS's? Whats the power difference?

Buy it from a jap auction!!!

You'll save a third (including shipping, SVA test, import tax and VAT!)

They have stringent government controlled laws covering the sale of second hand cars so they are all honestly graded 5 to 1, they use other grades with letters but they would be dubious; IE Q plater over here!

5 is the best, and to be honest in Japan 1 isn't that shabby either!!!

Don't worry about it being an import cause all GTR's are anyway!!

Have you ever seen a British Jap car importer without a smile on his face!

He can turn Ł28000 into Ł50000 for a good R34 GTR V Spec!

LOL cheers for the sales pitch dude, but it's kind of what I do for a living

Just not had anything to do with Skylines before and got an old customer wanting to P/EX one, didn't want this turning into anything other than a "information gathering" post

Thanks for the info tho

And me!!!

You need to check the engine numbers then!!

Cause it is VERY easy for the Japs to make them up to the spec, then they get over here and the monkey that buys the car tries to palm it off as a proper one!

The Japs won't lie the Brits will!!!

Get pics before it was imported if you can!!!

But it should be documented properly as a GTR/GTS/GTT anyway!!!

The only thing about the V5's is they seem to vary wether they are bothered about the lettering!!!

If it was a dedicated bloke bringing it in (if he's an old customer you are a better judge than me!!) it will probably say GTR, but it may just say Skyline!!! (What a mine field).

And to make matters worse they are all the same insurance cost with some companies!

You couldnt make a GTS a GTR, bodys are totally different, and if you miss it, your stupid.

Yould could put a GTST engine in a base GTS but so what.

GTS 2.5 RWD
GTR 2.6 4WD
Different engines, different blocks n heads (well they share no common parts), both capable of huge 700+ power, just GTRs need a lot less things changing for the power.

Main advantage of GTRs is the transmission

That is like saying you can't put a cossie engine in a Mk1 Escort chassis!

Oh yeah! Impossible!

Main advantage of the GTR is intelligent 4WS and 4W traction control combined with a torquey 2.6 flat six twin turbo lump! The other skylines share some of the spec but never all!

IN R34 Guise anyway!!

Leave this one to you fellas

Cheers for the info and btw itsmeagain,
and if you miss it, your stupid
kind of hard to compare something when you have no basis for comparison. How do I know what a GTS bodykit is like?

It's like me asking you to pick out the Original Red Indian band member of the Village People from a line-up.

I have posters of them all over my wall, so I could tell immediately

LOL! Torquey? GTSTs feel more punchy and torquey than GTRs due to smaller overall turbo size, much higher compression, VVT, and shorter boot piping.
They have NO traction control, none of em.
ALL skylines GTR and GTST have 4wheel steering, but its crap, better off locking or removing it.

c0ss1e9i6, you're pretty clued up

Bid away on the GT-R - it will be an expensive ornament when you get it here because you can't register it...

You need a model report to SVA an R34 and one hasn't been done yet, think they're about Ł50k to do!!

also this really made me laugh "The Japs won't lie the Brits will!!! " Really ha ha, yep Japanese won't clock a motor or nothing like that lol

Their auction reports are controlled by law, so they can't really lie, i admit that the auctioneer can be fleeced though!

Why are there R34's on the road in Britain now if the SVA report hasn't been done?

I thought if one was here all you would need is an SVA test, thats what customs and excise told me anyway!!!

I'll have to phone em back and clarify it, you could of saved me a shit load of money!!!!!!! Cheers!!!
