Wicked cars, SR20 engines are dead strong.

Mild stg1 type mods will get you well into the 12s over the 1/4.

Transmission isnt weak like people think, but 4wd puts more strain on the clutch etc than a 2wd car, but its same with all 4wds.

Handle brilliant, feel nice n small too which gives you the confidence to cane them round bends, tend to understeer rather than oversteer, but not until speeds that most people are too scared to reach anyhow, lol.

Look out for rusty rear arches. Apart from that its the usual wear youd find on any other 4wd turbo motor really.

gearboxes are ok until you start going for stage 2 power...awesome cars off the line...mate got a 12.8 at pod on standard one with dv and filter and exhaust...standard boost. if you were to get one and wanted major power the tuning is a bit more expensive than a cossy...

People i know have never had the problems people claim, and i know i think 5 people with pulsars.

Even running 100s of times at Santapod and getting mid 12s with 1.6 60fts (so mega hard launches) they seem to do fine.

Granted, they not huge power, but even 300bhp in one of them is quite a weapon

Maybe theres a knack to driving them fast without fucking the box

gearboxes are fine never had a problem with my car in 4 years and that was runing 300 BHP.

I dont launch everywhere and the car gets regular change of fluids. basically if you drive like a tit everywhere then they will give probs like any car but if you let the car warm up/cool down and service it regularly then it will be problem free

depends on mods best best is pay a bit more for one thats been in the Uk for a while i.e someone else has taken the risk of importing it. The think with being the 1st uk owner is you dont know what it will be like and what problems you will have (if any) compared to one thats been in the UK a while and had any wrinkles ironed out.

I would say 4.5k at least for a fairly normal one and 5+ for usual mods.

Although some of the current owners are having to compete with 3k imports that have flooded the market so are their cars are being priced to try and compete and you may get a good bargain

The GTiR boxes are marginally stronger than Mazda 323GTR boxes which are crap... Back when I had a 330bhp 323GTR, the guys from Pulsar/Sunny GTiR forums kept asking how the hell my box lasts so long while theirs blow @ 280hp-ish?

Well, I had 4 boxes and a quick mechanic to swap 'em... no one really noticed...

good cars had 2 of them a 280 brake 1 and nd 400 both great cars i found clutches were the weak point 4 me oh and ripping off upper engine mounts off the inner wing and parts can be very expensive in the end a brought a smacked 1 and broke there worth lots in pieces.

I love pulsars!

I have two mates who have them. I think they are excellent cars.

Heres a vid (poor quality though) of us out in it last weekend!

I don't know anyone on the Gtiroc forum that has gone through 4 in a year. One guy on potentially big power has just gone through 2 quaiffes in a month. (but has now stripped the car and sold up )
I think there is one person that has gone through about 4 gearboxes while he's had the car. I've had mine for 3 years now and not had a problem. I don't have big power but can get 1.8 60fts easily, with 5000rpm (ish) launches and letting the clutch up fast but not dumped or side stepped.

I won't deny they can be weak, but they're not as weak as everyone who hasn't owned one claims.

What will kill them quickly is paddle clutches (ceramics?) and dumping the clutch at high revs.

Used to launch mine EVERYWHERE - including handbrake to powerslide 180s in the rain never broke the box but the rear diff was about to fall off the back of it!

managed 12.2 1/4 with just a bleed valve and rear seats out! amazing off the line and do powerslide proper if you are really rough with it, otherwise it understeers.

Did the standard clutch and that was about it - v reliable

High mileage isnt a problem as long as they've been looked after, i've got one of the uk spec cars with Nissan service history and its done 124,000 miles now and the only major engine work its ever had done was a headgasket at 110,000

I wish the box was as good as the engine though I'm on my 3rd gearbox in the last 2 1/2 years and thats running standard boost Just about to go to about 300 bhp Sods law says the box wont break now

Mines at 82,000 miles and still on the original gearbox. I dont often launch it though, prefer a slight rolling start

Great cars for the money & very underated imo, mostly by people who really have never been in one

Nice vid btw Si
Although it's very hard to tell from the vid, I was doing just over 110mph when I let off
