hi all, need a new starter for the turbo (still cvh), been searching about and seems a few have mentioned the connect starter or a zetec item.

just after a definate fitment to look for so i can get ordering.

I've got a diesel starter motor on mine, it's massive but I'm not sure what one it is though? I'll find out for you.

whats the advantage of the connect starter are they smaller and more powerfull

 

its pretty compact, cheap newer, easily available

bolts straight on, had to change the switched live connector to a crimped eyelet.

Good man will have to do this, are u up rating the loom for it too or wrapping it?

 

Umm not going to uprate the loom will just look at the current connections and change them if need be. my switched live one that has a spade connector on it playing up as it is so that has to be changed anyway for a ring terminal..

Hadnt thought of wrapping but it is definately a good shout i forgot all about it i will be doing that have to dig out some of my heat wrap!

how much, can some pics when ya change the connectors and have her all hooked up. Fair play. What part QH part number is it?

 

i got it for 80 quid exchanged from my local as i know the bloke he said just put the old on in the box and bring it back.

yeah of course il take some pics mate! hoping to do it this week at some point if i get a chance!

 

The other reason to upgrade to the connect starter is because it's desgined to spin over a high compression diesel, it's very torquey. Massively understressed on our low compression petrol engines so it should be pretty bomb proof.

Also just a quick question about the starter motor wiring, my car has the big red battery lead, the thinner alternator lead and also another thin lead from the loom that runs along the front panel, is this right?

 

Mine worked fine yesterday when I fired her up.

You should have a main battery cable, a bridging harness from stater to alternator on the same terminal as the main battery cable (13mm nut) and then a small exciter wire from the ignition switch on either a spade terminal or a ring terminal to a stud on the starter (10mm).

If you're on a spade terminal you'll have to swap it for an ring terminal/eyelet (6mm internal diameter)
