Best Car For Under £2000 Daily ???
Got around 2k to spend on a car been looking at the 1.8t Golf's but 150hp seems abit under powered for what they are also been looking at some S2 Escort RsT's but not sure what would you guys recommend?
Fuel wise the golf makes a lot of sense, and perfectly nice cars to drive and handle ok etc too.
Other option that seems a good choice in that price range is a clio renaultsport 172, will still do 35mpg and are great fun to drive and loaded with toys like aircon and leather etc, and are epic little trackday hacks into the bargain, im driving one daily this week in fact as the mrs is borrowing my car and its great, im really enjoying it.

Deffo the Golf. I wouldnt consider any RS turbo as a daily, even If it was a good one, they are horrible to drive and you will end up hating it.They are best left as a toy in this day in age. IMO obviously.
It would be "Sorry boss, I'm not going to make it in.... again"

BTW another nod from me for the Clio Sport

Clio way to go my mrs picked up a full history 182 from a dealer with belts done for 2450, full fat cup packs comfy quick little motor, she has a golf gt tdi 150 at the moment, 52mpg and very nippy, both would be on my list.. .. I could not use my series one daily or any Rs turbo these days,
1) to many idiots on the road to en danger your future classic
2) like other people have said why would you want to there shit to drive in all reality, last week my van was in for work, used my escort for 3 days to get to work, I felt guilty, and was worried about everywhere I was taking it, plus heavy clutch, heavy steering and quirky brakes/rattles don't go well when driving to work and back lol and when collecting little one from nursery!
On the flip side was loving the comments from people and admiring looks from other motorists that had not seen a series one for a while(live on the isle of wight)
182 or golf sound perfect for daily smokers

Depends what you fancy!
Eco: golf/Leon/focus
Faster: Clio Sport
Bit more premium: E46 BMW or Jag X Type (mostly mondeo bits, cheaper to run and service if you can get past the old man image!)

i wouldnt want a <2k E46 as a daily as thats scraping the barrel really.
2k for an E36 will get you a tip top 328 sport or similar. good cars, if a bit dated. and not great on fuel

golfs are quite possibly the most overrated cars in history same as anything VAG... Look at a focus or mondeo. You'd also get an older Jag in that price range that won't have been thrashed to hell and back.
If we are talking petrol, the Focus and Mondeo engines are fine but so are the VAGs and you get turbo power for much cheaper! There's no denying the focus mk1 has the far superior chassis to the mk4 golf though

Golf tdi or similar again or if it has to be petrol the 1.8t.
Or an Audi a3/seat/skoda,all the same platform and equally good.
Rst for a daily?
No thanks, can't leave it anywhere either,ok reliability but a few salty winters and it's in the crusher.
Merc clk's are cheap bruisers too,a nice 230 compressor could be the bollox.
Just a thought!!!
