Default Noisey 044 fuel pump

Seems my Bosch 044 pump is screaming it's tits off, sometimes it quiet and other times really loud. The pump is around 2 yrs old but has seen very very little use.

I am aware normally when fuel
pumps go bad they make a loud buzzing noise, but, could a bad or clogged filter cause it to sound like it's cavetating and make a similar noise? I plan to replace the filter but is it more likely the pump is buggered?

Yeah I wondered that, it was noisey, I drove the car, parked it and started it again 15 mins later and it was quiet, then I get to my destination and it's loud again. Fuel is low but not on reserve.

Thanks for the responses, although it's basically a new pump I was miffed that it seemed to be doing this, will change the filter and fill the tank up and see if it makes a noticeable difference.

in hot weather you must keep your tanks well fuelled
low fuel levels cause pump overheating and can seriously damage your pumps and potentially your engine

Ok thanks, looks like a nice lesson learned here then, seems a common issue that I haven't heard about before.

Mine is very very loud and like yours is only 2-3yrs old but prob only done a couple of thousand miles.
My tank is only about 20L so cant keep more than that in it lol.
I just have to live with a noisey pump abd ut sits right by the handbrake so its straight into the driver lol.

What diameter is the inside of the fitting for the feed side of the pump?

I had one fitted to a car and it was loud as fuck, took it off and the inlet fitting was too small (as its a screw in fitting for the inlet on an 044) so drilled it out as big as possible and it was as quiet as a standard pump, obviously it was being starved.
