Question Instrament Cluster Swap

I need someone abit techy here. I have a fiesta MK6 and my lcd on the speedo cluster stopped working, so I cant tell how much petrol I have in the car. I've replaced the lcd with one from another, which shows the same problem so I know its on the actual instrament board it self. I swaped the complete unit from another fiesta mk6 with same engine size, all works accept the car won't start. Does the new instrament need to be reprogrammed by ford or is there a connection kit which connects to a laptop like the code scanner so I can do it myself.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It will need a trip to Ford to be programmed as it's all tied in with the immobiliser.

When you say the imobiliser, do you mean the ecu needs to be reprogramed or the keys ect..

I spoke to ford and they want £300+ to reprogram the new instrament cluster, which is out of the question, do you know if there is a kit I can buy to do it myself

the proper kit is thousands of pounds. Could be worth finding a mobile diagnostics technician to do it. Ford are having you over, won't take long to do on their computer, I'd expect to pay no more than an hours labour rate. Maybe try another dealer?

Thanks for your input, I'll try some other dealers, doe's it have to be ford or can most repair centers do it? If you have that number that would be great, I'm in the london area so don't know if your guy is around this way.

Sorry forgot to say on the new cluster the milage is lower, can they reprograme it so my milage remains true to my actual milage?

On some Fords (using the Ford IDS) you can write the mileage to odometer, but I think it can only be done on a new cluster, can not 'clock it' to a lower mileage and you only get one chance.

Some of these 'digital dash experts' may have aftermarket tools to 'adjust mileage' on a second hand dash.

£300 to program a dash takes the piss it takes a few minutes with IDS. Needs an ETIS log in or means of getting a code to sort the PATS.

Agree with RichieST -Would have thought most dealers with IDS would charge an hour at most to do it.

Look for a local mobile locksmith who has the kit to do it.
