whats the most boost a stage 1 can handle with alloy rad and 500cooler. Mine currently peaks at 20 and holds 16 but my mechanic said he can change the preload on actuator to get about 24psi?

NO NOT at all, unless you want to destroy your engine!

You can't just simply wind the boost up, unless you have the fueling avaliable, in other words it's 'mapped for it'.

There is a whole lot more involved than what's been said, for example the standard injectors need to be changed, plus you would need a 3 BAR MAP sensor and a -31 actuator (If you don't already have the latter) and a remap (Chip).

In other words you would need to go for a stage 3 setup OR the likes of a 'Gunship'.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but leave any tuning work on these cars to people who understand and know how they work (Tuner's in other words), what you have been told is totally incorrect!

Generally speaking stage 1 is about 15PSI, the standard MAP sensor can only 'see' 1 BAR of boost pressure!

Other things like a decent HG is fitted should also be verified.

I don't believe standard injectors can keep up with 20 psi. I run 19 psi peak on T3 and I have Bosch greens. Cosworth standard injectors on Stage 1 usually see maximum of 15 psi. On Stage 2, as said, you need Bosch 803 (green) injectors, 3 bar MAP sensor, -31 actuator and for extra security, stronger head gasket.

I wouldn't risk running 20 psi boost with standard injectors, you might get the mixture too lean and blow up the engine. Fit greens and required chip for it to be safe!

is there a massive diff between peaking between 19psi and 20psi then?

Only 1 PSI.

The standard injectors arn't so much the problem, you can run near stage 3 power with them with the 'Gunship' conversion but they are at the limit, the main difference is it's mapped for it, unlike your current calibration!

Plus the standard MAP sensor, as I say can not 'see' that sort of boost pressure.
