Default Heater problems

Having problems with the heaters in my xr3i. They put out good hot air within a few minutes usually but all of a sudden have stopped getting hot.

Driving for about 12 miles today and they suddenly went hot then cold again! Don't think its the matrix as they are usually really warm.

I think its the thermostat alothough thats only a year old. Also noticed fans are on when engine isnt really that hot.

Am i right in thinking its the thermostat???

Make sure you have the correct water level in the expansion tank, i am sure you have checked this or you could have a air lock.

Take the pipes off the matrix and stick a hose pipe in the heater matrix and flush it out. For a few quid i would be trying a thermostat.

Could be the thermostat, the easy way to confirm is to look and see what the temperature gauge is telling you, if the stat is stuck open it will run too cool.

Although for the fans to be activating would generally mean it is doing the opposite, i.e. overheating, thus your would have heating!

Don't just assume it's one single problem, it may be to completely different problems.

Well for a week or so the gauge stayed really low and now it reads just under halfway ish which i take as normal.

Heaters seem to be cold then hot etc

Dont think its overheating think its the thermostsat playng up so will change this and go from there.
