How u all do, following a HEATED discussion over the weekend with some friends i havent seen in a long time (u know the sort the ones you havnt seen for a life time then u have pointless banter for hours) we got onto the topic of cars, I told them I drove a RS and their first reaction was "boy racer" (which seriously hacked me off). 2 pints later and after trying to explain the history/ rarity of the car and the time n lengths ppl go to keep these cars I was just wasting my breath
Im 26 and wouldnt want to have any other car...... soooooo come on ppl if u drive a escort turbo what is your age???? Im curious to find the average age of the S1/S2 driver

 

Well i'm 25 and, like you, i'd never not own a RS as it's in the blood.

From the age of seventeen i've had 7 x RS1600i's, 3 x Series 1 RS Turbo's, 1 x S2 RS Turbo, 3 x 2WD Sapphire Cosworth's, 1 x 4WD Sapphire Cosworth, 1 x Fiesta RS Turbo, 1 x Mk5 RS2000 and 1 x 3door Cosworth (that's 18 RS's in all) and have never been RS'less.

I currently have a RS1600i, S1 RS Turbo and 3 door Cosworth and am proud to keep a little piece of RS history on the road which i'll continue to do until this isn't possible which'll be the day i stop breathing !!!

Im 23 and I know what you mean about people saying the boy racer thing, they dont have a fooking clue what their on about. This is my first rs and certainly not the last. have a s2 at the moment and love it to bits (too much really)

 

Series 1 26 years young, gotta amit I get the same ribbing from some of my mates about owning an RS and being a 'boy racer' to me boy racer is sitting in McDonalds at night with bass pumping and neons, Lexus rear lights and flamer exhaust etc, wheelspinning off going no where fast at every set of traffic lights.
I was bought up with RS's my family have had RS1600i, Series 2, Saph Cos, RS2000 4x4, Fiesta RS1800, Focus RS and Fiesta RS Turbo.

I'd always wanted a Series 1 and I'm gonna take great care of the one I've bought... it needs a lot of TLC

 

Im 25 i get the same sometimes but what really pisses me off is when someone says "oh its just a 15 year old escort". But there are some people out there who know what rs's are about but its more of the older generation who know about them.

 

im 19 had my s2 for 2yrs, alot off ppl say y dint u buy a golf or sumfing stupid and it old etc it does piss u off but when u overtake em in an "old escort" they soon cum bk 2 reality

 

im 25, had to wait till i could afford one!!, u cant beat the RS's, did stray to vauxhall astra gte 16v only for the engine though!

and yes, i've had the usual too..."but its a 15 year old car" and "typical boy racer" some ppl, most ppl who aint ford enthusiasts really, just dont get it

The best thing about owning an escort turbo is when the company car driver who knows nothing about cars thinks 'whats this e reg bag of crap' and goes to overtake you coming up a slip road in his brand new 1.8 litre vectra/mondeo/merc etc then give it a quick blast for 100 yds and leave 'em standing and looking daft.

 

i'm 21 and just brought my first s2 always owned fords and porbably always will to a serton exstent. My g/f asked me "why did u spend all that money on an old escort??" tried to explan it to her but she don't understand. imo boy racers are 17 18 yr who spend all there money on tacky mods and sounds systems who can't aford an engine bigger that a 1.2

 

I'm 29 this month. Owned my first S2 ERST 7/8 years ago when I was a boy racer but the one I have now is being restored because they are getting rare. Look at the price of Mk 1 & 2 Escorts now.

22 and own a series 1. I get loads of stick at work about owning an RS . There all into there jap crap

 

yeah I know wot your saying mate, jap cars everywhere but thats the thing there EVERYWHERE at least when you drive the S1 on the roads you know you could probably go wks n wks before you see another on the road

I tend to find this a lot, but really don't care anymore as most people who express this kind of opinion don't have a clue about any car let alone rs's.
Just out of interest, what cars do the friends who labelled you a 'boy racer' drive?

 

the norm, they drive BMW`s, rover 25, ZR`s, Vectras etc etc. Just hacks me off when ppl label you instantly bcoz you drive an Rs I like to be different, to be able to drive a car with soooooo much history n respect

 

I'm 28, only owned my S2 for 3 weeks now, despite needing a new gearbox, cams, and probably more stuff, its just really good to get in and drive compared the day in/day out company car! Will be even more fun once the engines running were I want it (200bhp+)

im 28 and on my second s2 was boy racer when i had my black one about 6,7 years ago all grown up now just couldnt explain to people why i sold my st170 to get another one

 

23 now had my first s2 when was 18 ive had three now and love them
wouldnt have another car, part from a cossie .

imo a lot of people dont realise the difference between an rs and they just think its a 13 yr old ford escort, they dont realise the history or rarity of these rs's.

All the m8's I went to school with, like myself have mutual respect for each of our cars. Yeah, we have the usual banter, like everyone does .

Thing is, what do girls think about them, should hopefully me taking a lass out next week, now, do i roll up in the S2 with the loud mongoose exhaust, or take my daily runabout fiesta ??

 

24, and I have had the rs for over 3 years now. Been looking at 200sx's and other cars... but each time I just can't stop thinking that the car I have is rare, and that I love it to bits And oh yes.. my mother is already going "haven't you grown up yet?"

About the what car you take to a girl... well can only speak for myself. My gf loved the fact that she could hear it far away and always knew it was me coming when I had the scorpion on....
But that's the only thing she likes about the car. She thinks its a boy racers car and its ugly.. must be why I'm always dumping them
