Default Stupid question

Can I grind out a slight bit of rot on a chassis leg, treat it and bog/paint the surface to leave it looking original instead of welding a nasty plate over it?

It's not deep enough to require a strengthening plate hence the stupid question

why not cut out the rot, make a plate that fits tight in the hole, weld it then grind the welds flat treat and paint it...invisible repair, no rot job done

Cut out all the rot and a bit of good metal. Make a plate up that fits the hole thats of equal or better thickness and seam weld it. Grind welds flush, seal it and its as good as new

Get a wire bit on a drill/grinder first before you make sure it's actually eating into the metal as lots of surface rust looks really bad but once you get underneath it's solid - i would never stick bog on the underside always cut out

Honestly it is really not bad and deffinatley doesn't warrant cutting out, I'm just being really picky but I want it to look perfect
