But automatic cars use a flywheel and a torque converter bolted directly to it,

Automatic cars do not use a clutch plate,

Typical bloody part listings!!

Jano, thats an interesting statement. What makes you say that? I'm sure it reduces the torque steer a bit. But does it make that much difference?

Whats the diff up to? In terms of torque?

A pinto AP 4 paddle is direct fitment for these boxes (MTX75) Diesel Pressure plate and release bearing works fine with 317bhp

Is this a question or a statement

I take it you know this from experiance then yeah??

The reason for a 3 piece shaft is the value for money over a Ł500-1k diff and the results will work out better!! Instead of the expensive diff you fit 3 shafts.

Fact is with equal length shafts you WILL reduce/eliminate tourque steer with a well balanced car and suspension!! Fords used this system on 909 RS2000 and other Private teams also used the MTX75 in a FWD (S1, Puma & a few others i know of) with 3 piece shafts. Dont under estimate the setup.

Jano

The RS2000 championship cars all had Quaife ATB's fitted

you will reduce/eliminate torque steer with a well balanced car and suspension, equal length driveshafts will help....

+ 3 piece shafts

Unless you have spare cash, A decent backing or alot of power i dont see the point in the diff if you have the 3 piece.

Only my opinion of course

One benifit of the diff is that when cornering and weight is transfered to the outer wheel more power can be transmitted to it and thus reduce the chance of the inside wheel spinning up and lossing drive. How exactly does your drive shaft do this?

3 piece shaft dont do this!! But good drivers skills will Use "that" weight transfer to your advantage.

You will have to be pushing sum serious power.... which i know your car and my own car is not pulling To have the need for a LSD (If you have 3 piece)

If it fails after having 3 piece shafts you can always pay the extra and get the diff, but you wont need it .

Its oviously different for your setup as you have the diff already, but that dont matter. Even YOUR car will benifit from the 3 piece shaft setup

HTH

The triple shaft im sure is a good idea but disregarding cost which would you prefer.

I also totally disagree with the power statement, ask any 205 challenge driver

Driver skill is all good and well but it cant overcome the laws of physic's and the fact a diff will enable more power to be put down when the car is pitched.

BUT you keep comparing the system with yours

In my case i need to make driveshafts any way as the std items you have will NOT fit a mk3/4 escort , for this reason.. I would rather make the 3 piece (As this is better) than making the 2 piece which is also making it have more rotaitional twist which could break the shaft in extream cases. (I have seen this)

Dont get me wrong TAZ has the same as yours and there is no need for him to pay extra to change the std items..

So the outcome for you is stick with what you got as it all bolts up std.

For the mk3/4 boys.....only 1 way to go
