Default Puma shifter on RS Turbo?

Anyone done this conversion?

I believe that they can be fitted as they are but this moves the shifter backwards, meaning new holes have to be drilled to mount it to the floor. Does that mean that the gasket wont work so will piss water into the car?

Failing that, do they need chopping down to fit? If so, can anyone supply me with any info?

My standard RS shiter is awful

I fitted one to my estate, bolts straight onto the box and it's 10mm shorter so hole need drilling. The whole centre console still fits straight back in. Will upload a couple of pics tommorow if you want?

The 2 10mm bolts you can see are the back brace off the new selector.

Is a brilliant cheap mod, gear selection is as good as quick shift

Cheers Nath.

So it's just a case of bolting it all to the gearbox, then drilling from underneath?

Does the stabiliser and everything fit...?
I tried this last year on a friends car and nothing seemed to line up, and the gear lever wouldnt self centre back to neutral.

you need the ib5 bix if you want it to self centre. yes it all fits apart from drilling extra holes

Can the lever be made to self centre by butering it with the RS lever mech at the gearstick end?

Ye I have the old style box found in all mk4's b5? I Think .not ib5 as that's the later version but should still fit.

Yes it litterally bolted straight to the box (both bars straight on) then lifted it up and marked the holes. Took me 20 mins tops.

I see no reason why it shouldn't fit a frst, may even be a direct swap as fez one is shorter that an escort.

I cannot stress how good and easy this mod is, if you've ever drove a puma you would know.

Heres a pic of my centre console all back together

Does it feel OK given that it doesnt self centre though?

I remember Jano saying he could make them self centre if you sent him a puma and escort linkages.

If you knock it out of gear it falls back to center, if In neutral and you pull it to one side it falls back to the middle. Is that self centering enough for ya lol

I havnt done any mods to it at all for it to do this.

Anyone running decent power should really be using an IB5 box anyway, there's so many about, so cheap and drop straight in!

Yes, the casing has more webbing meaning less flex under high torque, the bearings are bigger (like a CTS box), but no they dont come with a diff... The S2 LSD drops in though so not a problem.
Effectively an IB5 box is a CTS box without shot peened gears and a quaife diff.... for about £25!!!!
I ran my last IB5 for over a year (about 10k miles) with around 270bhp and it didnt break, prior to this I have broken three BC boxes with much less power... snapped main shafts, stripped teeth, etc.

Collar? You need to drill two holes at the back of the linkage (shifter end) but not quite sure what the collar is you are referring to?

So I need to drill through the linkage housing on the puma one?

when I mean collar I’m talking about the idonized colour frame in post 6 above with the bolts come up.

I have one of these lying in the garage for years, never actually fitted is because the non centering put me off and iirc the bars cross over underneath???
