Steam cleaning interiors? Any good? Any1 done it?
The interior of my birds golf is pretty filthy and i wanna clean it up properly
I will use the foam spray cans to start with but dint think they are all that.
Are steam cleaners any good? Worth buying?
Or should i get a valeter with a proper upholstery cleaner to do it?

Yes steam is the way forward and used by detailers and valeters all over the country. My friend has just purchased one but yet to try with detergents on heavy soiled interior but even dry steam alone well over 100 degrees will shift most things. Its down to technique with these too .
Ok. Will look into it.
Are there ones that are worth using and others that are not?
And lol. I can get pics but it looks just like a normal golf, just not as clean as id like it lol.
It was in a real state when we got it and its a lot better now but not good enough lol.

Had a look through ebay and i cant find any that use detergent.
They all advertise as chemical free cleaning.
Opposite lock, did you mean your mates bought a steam cleaner that you put detergents in or clean with detergents then steam?

Had two done by valeters in the past, the first guy did a top job and took a manky trim and made it like brand new!
Second guy we used took a slightly grubby trim and made it...a little less grubby and all the stains came back once dry!
First guy proved that with the right kit and time you can bring them back to new.

Yes but it wasn't cheap. You can still use detergents seperately though .
Get a 2nd hand carpet shampooer off ebay. I normally use upholstery cleaner spray, give it a good scrubbing in, then a vax machine just with water in to pull all the dirt out. You'd be amazed at the colour of the water in the dirty tank after!

I have a steam cleaner and a wet vax extraction machine, the steamer hardly ever gets used apart from realy dirty ingrained plastics.
I find extracting is by far the best way,as above use with a stiff brush and go over the car a few times and you cant go wrong.
If you wet a stain on a seat it will dissapear untill its dried, so you do have to be methodical in your technique hence brushing and going over it a few times.

Steam cleaners are great for interiors. The best technique I've seen is to use Autoglym interior shampoo, microfibre cloths and a steam clearner. The steps are as follows:
1) Spray shampoo onto the seats.
2) Lay microfibre on area of seat.
3) Aim steam at microfibre when it is lying on the seat. The steam will draw the dirt from the seat, onto the microfibre.
4) Repeat steps 2 & 3 until the whole seat is done.

I use a 'George' wet and dry vacuum cleaner. Cost about £220 about 5/6 years ago. Have done loads of cars. Occasionally I use the pressure washer on the heavy soiled carpet whilst still in the car, but you have to take care not to over do it. I wouldn't advise this though.
The 'George' uses a carpet shampoo that you mix with warm water in the water tank of the vacuum cleaner. I think you can cheaper wet and dry vacuum cleaners, I've seen people in the trade using them, I'm sure they are grey and yellow in colour.
Autosmart Bio Brisk is the best.
Numatic do larger capacity Wet/Dry extractors than the George, but more for larger capacity over greater performance. Better if you do lots of large carpeted areas.
I bought a George as its perfectly big enough for cars which was my main use. I can still clean my carpets, furniture and even hard floors with it with the right attachment.
I have a steam cleaner, which is used on some hard surfaces, but for carpet and fabrics an extractor is the way to go.
Has any1 used an upright cleaner?
Theres loads of upright carpet cleaners on ebay that are local and cheap.
Do they work ok on the hose attachment?
I guess they do as thats what you would use on stairs at home?
