Default ball joint

Hi all,

i'm removong my drive shafts(or trrying rather), but dont have a socket big enough for the hub nut, so i'm going the long way around.

Now i have the brakes off, suspension off and steering off, but the lower control arm is giving me a problem, the ball joint.

I'm off to halfords now to but the 2 pronged removal tool, but how will i get this back together when im done.

Any help would be great!

whilst you're at halfords buy a socket and a breaker bar, that'll help you in the future, not worth pissing about working round hub nut IMO.
put it all back together, undo nut whilst on ground, undo lower arm and pop shaft out.

if you decide to carry on in the same route, just pop it back in with hammer taps to locate it in the right place.

i think they are 30mm off hand.
1/2" ratchet may be upset, would need a pole putting through it if that's the plan, breaker bars are only Ł20, not even an hour in a garage would cover the cost of the tools, that's how i justify buying equipment.

Ok, il reattach the bit and bob iv taken off and go buy a 30mm socket, after checking with tape. i'm sure i have a scaffolding pole about too,

i'l be using a 1/2" drive tourqe wrench, would i be in risk of breaking that, it's rated to 210nm?

Ta mate,

you shouldn't break the torque wrench, but that isn't any use for tightening up after refit either, as the scale is too small.
breaker bar Ł20
socket Ł8 ish, job done and you have a tool that'll save you a fortune long term

just a regular breaker bar, 1/2" jobie.
i bought my first years back just after a 120piece hal pro socket set and it's frequently in use, from a tool supplier though, but they're pretty much the same, around 2' long.

that's all you'll need really.
hope you've got strong arms to lever the inner cv's out though, can be very tight buggers.
