Default Sierra Cosworth Compression Strut Spares? In-situ adjuster, Where from? pics inside

I bought some compression struts the other week on ebay, they came but they looked like they hadnt been adjusted for a long while.

I got the first strut split so they can be cleaned but on the second one i noticed that one of the tie rods has been bent.. but on removal the worst happend... the thread on the insitu adjuster has been stripped from the bent tie rod..

anyone know where i can get a insitu adjuster from for the welded style compression struts?

these are the style i have and i need the adjuster with the lock rings on the right which holds the tie rod end

http://www.rscosworthbreakers.co.uk/...28Small%29.jpg

this is the part i need

as you can see the tie rod is bent, must have smashed a kerb or such like which has caused the thread in the in-situ adjuster to cross resulting in no thread left.

so i have two options, buy a new insitu adjuster and tie-rod, or buy two tie rods the next size up and re-tap my in-situe adjuster to suit.

does anyone know where i can get this style of adjuster from?

cheers matty

Post a pic of yours up mate, you can get the thread re-cut if needs be, or just replace the rod part that is bent?

i was thinking that but its a left handed thread and i dont have a left handed tap.

plus i will have to go a size up and if i did that the tie rods wont match.

Any decent machine shop should have a left hand tap, and be able to do it for a few quid. Stick a pic of yours up, might just be able to buy the part you need or get it remade?

here you go

http://www.compbrake.com/suspension-...-original.html

im not sure what size the rose joint is but just give them a bell they were the original company to make them .

BUT if you do use them i would uprate the bolt from a m10 to a m12 bolt that clamps through the tca or this might happen

both bolts sheared off when i was pulling up my drive so i was very lucky if it done it on the road the car would be scrap

Mcgoo, I might have a spare barrell, I will look for you on the weekend, the eye end is toast, you will need a new one. I might be able to get one at a sensible price, is that a left hand thread as well?

thatd be awesome wil. ill send you some beer tokens if you have one!

when you say the eye end is toast do you mean the thread in the barrell or do you mean the actual tie rod is worn out?

and yes it is a left handed thread on the the rod end

cheers guys

That bolt looks like it has been massivly overtorqued, look at the furrowing in it! Add to that a bit of corrosion & there you have a failure waiting to happen!

The eye end is the bent part, the barrell is the part with the thread stripped out. I would be having a serious look at the long strut, as well as the ARB mounting bracket & bolts as that has had a fucking hard whack , to bend a 1/2" rod end like that is pretty brutal!

sorry weve confused each other, when you said you had a spare i thought you ment that it came with a knackerd eye end, i know my eye end is no good and ill need a new one..

the strut itself seems straight and true. and my struts didnt come with mounting brackets so ive bought new ones of them anyway
