Default Sun roof (Roof lining removal?)

Going to fit my new sunroof soon and was just wondering how much of a pain is the roof lining to remove and put back? I've heard it can be a bit of a tricky job?

Its pretty simple mate, just remove the door seels and sunroof seel then just ease the headlinging out. In some places its taped under the seals. Also be careful as the headliner can rip as it is old!

I would have thought with the runners and everything the lining would have to come out?

as above. no need to remove headlining. put sunroof to tilt position and remove 4 or 6 crosshead screws and take glass off mech..this will give you access to the screws keeping the mech fixed to the roof cassette. i would tape up around the roof then just lift mech up and slide out. nice and easy. should take about half an hour to change

You dont have to take the glass off the mech, you can take it all out in one hit if you have the whole lot to change

Had a look at it today. There is no way the glass will come off the old mech as all the screws are just rusty blobs.

So it looks like i'll have to change the whole lot.
What is the procedure for removing the entire sunroof mech?

Easy ,wind the sunroof right back ,undo all the screws and also the two on top of the winder handle which you will have to remove ,to get the plastic trim that surrounds it off ,then wind the roof shut and put it on tilt ,then lift up the front of the glass and slide the whole lot forward and up ,you will find it will catch at the back underneath (a flat piece of metal needs pushing down a bit ,part of the interior cover) so just push it down a bit and it will become free them it will come out ,whole roof takes me about 5 mins to get out ,hope this helps

so there is no screws at the back of the mech under the roof? Just all the ones visible when the glass is wound right back?

correct,at the back up near the tailgate it just slides into two locaters ,no screws ,it just may be a bit stiff

ahh cool.
I just wondered looking at the new mech why it had two really clean patches on it next to some holes. Looked like it bolted on somewhere but the clean bits must be where it sits in the locaters.

I shall get that done tomorrow then. Cheers for the advice!

Go the new sunroof in today. really easy job! thanks for good advice everyone. Rep coming your way.

Decided to take a few pics of the old sunroof. See if you can spot what's wrong with it

Wanted to salvage the glass...turns out that is what was holding it all together.

sorry to invade but the inner roof on my rs is partly rusted, to me it just looks like a water trap and support for the sunroof? (could be wrong)

Are they bonded or tak welded on?? the inner roof skin

There bonded on and spot welded in a few places. I've changed mine was easy enough.

I think I might have to give mine a go when the weather is better and give it a good clean and paint.
