Default Selling car - private plate

I'm selling my car but at the moment I have a private plate on it. How do I go about putting it back on original reg and using my plate for new car please. I'm sure it'll no doubt cost money

Westy, just put it on retention mate, then transfer it onot the new car once bought. Costs £125 to do that, but that includes the fee to put it on the new car. Money for nothing I know, but easy to do and only takes a couple of weeks usually.

you'll only be able to transfer it to the new car if you have it already.

Deano's idea is to transfer directly from one car to another - that means you will have to own, insure, tax and MOT both cars at the same time. If you're chopping your car in against another one at a dealer then the £80 option would work.

Don't want to open a can of worms here but the vehicle your transferring from doesn't actually need any of the above as long as it has been taxed in the last 6 months.
I did find a link before from t'internet as I had it with my bike.
