Default digital water temp gauge, correct wire for temp sensor ?????

Hi,

I have wired up a pivot digital water temp gauge today but Im a bit unsure about the temp sensor wire. On the instructions it says you have to wire the temp sensor wire directly to the temp sensor........but on the picture it shows it connected to a wire coming out of the ecu In the end I spliced it into the wire coming off the temp sensor on the block, I then switched the gauge on but it wasnt reading a temp. My main question is does the wire coming off the block go into the ECU and 'out the other side' to the dash board ? If so does this give a different type of signal which would enable my digital gauge to work ?

Alternatively anyone else who has a digital gauge fitted, where did you connect yours to ?

cheers, Duncan

The temp sender on the front of head is for the temp gauge, the temp sender for the ECU is at the back of the engine under the inlet manifold.

ah yeah, forgot about that one I thought that was just for the cold start injector ......or is it constantly sending a signal to the ECU ? Do you reckon this is the right one to connect it to ?

The thermo time switch operates the cold start injector, this is only a temperature controlled switch so don't connect it to that.

The temp sensor for the engine management is located near to the thermo time switch and sends the coolant/engine temp back to the ECU. Not sure if you can piggy back off that sender as it may affect the signal to the ECU.
