Default Astra 56 plate, airbag,ECU,interior light hazard issues.

Trying to help a good lad in work.
He's bought one of these,1.6 coupe/hatch sort of thing, pretty car but pretty crab build.
Now he's had these issues for a while.
It started with the airbag light coming on for no reason.
Then a few weeks later the interior light would not switch off,no matter what,on while driving etc, apparently it comes on with the alarm then fades when the key goes into position 1/2 I think?
He said the latest thing is the hazards are staying on when he sets the alarm.

It's been to Vauxhall where their response was its a duff ecu,one of two.they ordered a new one at £600 (ouch!!!) but the wrong one was sent.they plugged his old one back in cos he needed the car back and the faults cleared.
This worked for a week then it reared it's ugly head again.
He's been back and they've told him it maybe the "other" ECU (I'm guessing body control) and they'll need to order it,reprogramme it but if it doesn't work there's no refund,I think it's £800 odd quid!!!
But if it's the other, non programmable ECU that's £600 and it can be returned.

He's understandably pissed off as the cars done low miles etc and as you can see it's a £1400 bill to "maybe" cure it.

If anyone's had this themselves or works for a decent vaux dealer your replies would be most welcome.

Has the vehicle been read for trouble codes? Sounds a little strange to me

Yeah, they told him it had gone into crash mode, despite not being crashed but the faults are still there.
What a pile of wank.
Looking on t'internet it's a common fault but no conclusive answers?

common problems on em, my sisters had the same issue, but thankfully she had full history so Vauxhall sorted it.

you can ask for a CIM update (i believe that's what its called) which does fix alot of strange electrical issues.

other problems can be the loom to the ecu or the ecu itself.

my sisters problems started with the radio coming on when they were asleep in the house!, the key fob not unlocking the doors, and latterly the engine not starting as the immobilizer would not go off.

I think it has got fsh.
I'll mention it tommorow, apparently the cim is a recall as well.
What shit cars they are, another guy in work asked me to read his codes t'other day and it wouldn't link up,I said I can't see why unless the ecu was fucked.
It was, cost him £1000 to sort.
Ouch,57 reg car,shocking.
